Unhappy Cloth trim on Door Edges?

I love my E320 looks and handling, but I was very surprised to find Mercedes using a cloth trim on the edges in cabin next to the doors. This is my first benz, but I looked at other models and found plastic trim. This is a problem for me as I have two young kids (7 and 4), and I can hardly tell them to not step on the trim when they get in the car. Consequently, dirt gets on the trim and I have to frequently clean them off. What makes it worse is my interior is Stone, and the carpet and trim are very bright and shows dirt easily. Fortunately, I sprayed ScotchGuard on them when I first got the car, so the dirt comes off when wiping.

I'm interested in knowing if anyone else have the same problem and what they do about it. Thanks!

I studied the cloth trim on the new E Class and on my 2000 E55. The cloth trim is the same on both, however on the older E class , there is a sloid plastic trim piece that covers the cloth so it won't get dirty. The new E Class is missing this strip, however it looks like the strip from the older style would fit.

Sadly

Sadly, I did not have the foresight to use ScotchGuard, and my local service department really filthed that cloth strip up when my E320 was in the shop for two weeks to have the infamous SRS repair.

I, too, would appreciate hearing from others how they clean this strip.

Also, is it an easy repair to change? I have wondered if I shouldn't demand that the dealer replace the strip because of their carelessness.

I got some oily dirt off my shoe on my ash color trim strip and had good success with foaming auto upholstery cleaner and a toothbrush. MB has used those mouse-fur strips for years, and they are pretty resilient. They have been around the doors but I've never seen a model with the strip so obvious on the threshold.

Definitely, I'm sure they'll do it, the sooner you mention it the better, simply talk to the service department manager.
