So, the latest update I have so far (applicable to the E320 Bluetec), building on the PDF that was posted earlier:

Option Packages: P1, P2

Individually Available Options: Parktronic, Split Folding Rear Seats, Wood&Leather Steering Wheel, Rear Side-Window Blinds, Panorama Sunroof, Electronic Trunk Closer, Illuminated Door Sills

Designo paint only options (no designo packages available): Mocha Black, Graphite

The Gasoline models have the AMG sport package as a no-charge option, as noted in the PDF. P1 changes as noted in PDF, P2 unchanged.

Its a costly upgrade. New COMAND, replacement of electronics in the trunk, replace Harman Kardon DSP, with 5.1 speakers.

Bluetooth is nice, but other than that I wouldnt go trading the car in seeing that the redesign will be out soon.

Glad to see all the updates and the freebies for the E-Class' last year.

Just fyi, I am pretty sure that all 2009 MY cars are getting the updated NAV software so the E-Class is not alone.

I thought one buying an 09 would be more disappointed not waiting for a 2010 MY car than the one buying an 08 instead of an 09.

Would be better to enjoy what ever MY xy instead of one or a few earlier.

Lease the 09 for 24 or 27 months, enjoy it and bypass for the 1st year 2010. Let them work out the bugs and get a better deal on the 2011.

So...is the "on-line Dealer Ordering Guide"/Newschannel accesible to the general public, or is it dealer-only?

I actually jumped at the chance to get the MY09 because I want the improved telematics and the current body style. I like the W211's round-headlights design better than the square design I've seen in pictures of the anticipated 2010 model.

The only bad thing about the 2009 is that you can't order a leather interior without the sport package. So I have a 2009 E350 4Matic on order with MB-Tex upholstery. My build date is this week, and the dealership expects the car to arrive in early August. I'll post pictures of the new nav when it arrives.

You can order a leather interior without the sport package, I think your dealer is misinformed.

Agreed, you should contact them immediately and tell them to change the order before the car is built. Were you trying to get one of the two tone interiors? The Black/Sahara or Black/Cognac? because those are only available in leather and only on the sport package.

The other interiors, Black, Cashmere, and Grey can all be ordered in leather on a Luxury E350.

I'm afraid it is too late to change to leather, I hope I'm wrong.

But here one can find a few presentations about the new COMAND. It looks pretty much like the W204 COMAND, or a W221 with the few W204 additions.

Anyway...

I noticed that the 333 Sport Package is being replaced by the 321 AMG Sport Package for '09. Are any of the features from 333 being incorporated into 321?

321 includes everything 333 has, plus more.

What's "plus more"? Besides the requisite AMG body styling, wheels, and steering wheel with paddle shifters?

Also, why isn't 321 advertised as including everything from 333?

That is exactly what 321 is, AMG sport package brings those AMG components to the standard 333 sport package.

To advertise the 321 AMG Sport package as including the contents of the 333 Sport package would be inaccurate and confusing as the only similarity is that each comes with Black-Bird's Eye Maple wood trim as standard. Burl walnut is available for $300 more.

333 comes with unique front lower body work (the chrome lines around the fog lights) and dual chrome exhuasts, and unique 18" 10 double spoke wheels.

321 AMG Sport package has AMG front and rear body work with dual chrome exhuasts, 18" AMG 5 spoke wheels, AMG premium leather steering wheel with paddle shifters.

If I understand correctly, the 333 Sport package will be replaced for MY 2009 with the AMG Sport package which will be no charge. Does this sound right?

333 is a strange option code. It is not only the 18" 10-spoke, but also better brakes and sport suspension. It also calls for "Avantgard" trim instead of the "Elegance" trim (Avantgard is not orderable in the US without the sport package, which is annoying since the E320 Bluetec is available everywhere else in Avantgard, but not with the sport package, and Avantgard can not be ordered seperately even in that case), known as sport and luxury in the US, even though they are appearance only packages. Avantgard gives the chrome treatment of the fog lights, blue glass, and black maple trim.

321 is a "real" sport package, because it adds sport trim to the 333 "Avantgard with sport components"

I had the chance to try the new COMAND system in the 2009 CLS550 which should operate the same as the 2009 E-Class. I have to say it is much improved and well worth the wait for a 2009 model. The media interface is the most notable improvement. The car now integrates completely with the iPod (I tried it with my iPhone and it worked flawlessly).

On the COMAND screen there are menus for artists, songs, playlists, etc. Much easier to use than the previous iPod integration.

This is going to sound stupid, but the one thing I didn't like is the beep when you pull the Voice Control lever. It is a different beep than the other cars now, and it sounds lower-tech, but oh well, at least the voice control works as well as the new C-Class now.

Thank you for clarifying that, I thought about mentioning the Avantgarde but then decided not to. And I also forgot about the blue-glass.

I guess Mercedes never wanted to get involved with Elegance vs. Avantgarde terminology in the US as it would probably even further confuse customers and dealers.

321 = 333 + AMG parts

321 is the same equipment as 333 with the exception of he AMG components in place of the standard 333 stuff. Front and rear bumper, wheels and the steering wheel with paddle shifters are included with 321. All other bits from 333 are carried forward. Would not make sense to do it any other way. Of course these are based on the ECE avantgarde. It is the way the 321 package has worked since it was re-launched about a year ago.
