Just bought a previously owned 2005 E500 4MATIC. COMAND Navigation doesn't see rural streets at all (including my street). MB dealer says they need to upgrade the navigation processor in order to read the new, more detailed, DVD. Cost would be approximately $ 1,400 for the upgrade. Has anyone else been through this? I a new to the MB family.
Search the forum for Navigation. I've seen threads where it seemed to be to be a software upgrade and latest DVD from MB. That price looks like its for a whole new install. I still have the 2004 DVD that came with my car, and it's fine for me. Get me to the closest "old" street and I'll find my way from there.
That price seems over the top. Although there is no guarantee that your area will show up in the new maps (I don't know how remote your area is), a new nav disc should be about $200 and new COMAND software update is on a $12 disc.
Although not 4matic, I recently picked up an 05 E500. I updated my car with both these items and my particular area did show up. My area was still being built out in 05 (when the car was built) so the new map did help.

Request they update the navigation processor “software”. This will solve the recognition problem. In addition, have the COMAND headunit software updated at the same time to improve system reliability while adding features: navigation mutes with MUTE button, ETA (distance & time) displayed below, and telephone signal strength in status line during active route guidance.
