Okay Crazy4Cars, I Got the Wood Wheel!!
sorry i didnt say it looks nice, this morning i was like 24 replies in one day!!! thats unbelievable
looks sweet though, how much was it? sorry if it was posted before, i have to go to work, i have no time
BTW, I am keeping the old wheel. This could come in handy as I leased the car and will remove it at the end since it is not in the lease. I may end up with another E500 and then will get it for only the cost of uninstalling it from my current E500 and installing it in the new one!!
I can't say enough good things about its look and feel. It is worth it at the full price!!!

They told me they didnt have a wood wheel-actually the dealer pushed me out of it.
When looking at the wood wheel on other MB's- I think it completely changed the entire demeanor of the cabin-
Much more elegant or sophisticated.
I have also heard that if i have the dealer install it- there can be problems.
Crazy4Cars: Can you get a wood wheel for your SL55, say in black bird's eye maple or other black color?
Hi Jeff. Hope you had a great holiday season. I've been on vacation too and got your PM yesterday. Thanks. I'll send you a reply in a couple of days. I got a slight deal on the wood wheel, $600 plus installation. My dealer wouldn't do anymore than that which is upsetting since I paid MSRP, had no trade and got the extended warranty. Wish I had ordered the wood wheel from the beginning but I was told it was not available when I placed my order. Anyway, I would like the wheel but not sure I want to spend approx $750 for it now. I'm Still thinking about it though.
MIKE-FERN: A lot of us had the wood wheel installed and I have not heard of any problems, unless I missed them.
It is well worth the money, both in looks and feel.

Ray...why not ask the other dealer in your area if he will install for $500. It looks like a lot of dealers a doing that now.

i used adobe on the wheel-
u will like it
Too bad you can't get it cheaper but there are many others who did not. Just remember your dealer if you have an opportunity to deal elsewhere in the future. What goes around -comes around.
When you order be sure they know how you feel.
But....get it. You won't be sorry

Crazy4Cars: the MBUSA website "build your own" SL55 section has a wood wheel as an accessory in 3 colors and in the "more information link says:
"2003 Accessories
Wood and Leather Trimmed Steering Wheel
Made from hand-polished Burl Walnut or Chestnut and richly grained leather, this steering wheel puts luxury in the palm of your hands. Available in Ash/Walnut, Stone/Chestnut, and Charcoal/Walnut Leather."
If the walnut is really dark, it may go with the AMG black and aluminum dash. Or aftermarket?
