I really like these polls. They give us MB owners a better perspective of the magnitude of the problems reported in this forum.

If anyone got theirs replaced more than once, then it must have been the defective one the first time around and the fixed part the second time. The same problem occuring twice within such a short period of time should NEVER occur.

The "Central Gateway Control Module" is replaced if you get the SRS/TeleAid failure message on the display panel. One replacement cured mine, which originally failed 5 days after delivery. The dealer tested it and found an internal fault. On the replacement they installed, the tech found a software error, then "manually version coded the control unit" and it has been fine since. An overnight repair for me, although I was among the first and they had one in the depot for overnight delivery. I think they have been delayed since then as delivery of replacements has been slow.

I admit I'm lucky to have a great dealer. I had their first C Class in '01 and now I'm one of the earliest E's in '03, and while there have been a few warnings or problems on both cars, the techs have been very knowledgeable and quick to diagnose and solve.
They tell me that anything "new"--first problem, first repair, first installation--goes to one of their techs who is a MB Guild Technician (MB awards something like 35 techs per year who reach this level. He got it a few years ago.) He does it or supervises it, and it's obvious when you see them work that they have a good team approach and sharing of information and solutions. As I posted elsewhere earlier, too, they had several back from the MB training on the E before the late September launch. I got mine Oct 2. The radio failed at delivery on Oct 2, that was a head-scratcher and fixed itself within the hour, but has not reappeared since the gateway module replacement, and the SRS/TeleAid warning came up Oct 7, fixed Oct 8. This is in Va, in the Washington DC zone which covers DC/Md/Va and perhaps more, so the info must be there if it's sought.
