EVER HAD THIS PROBLEM????

For some reason on really hot days when I have my ac blasting my radio will shut off on it's own and the mercedes logo appears. If I try to turn the power off and turn it back on all I get is the logo on the screen and the radio doesnt play, I would say after a good 15 mins the radio kicks back on by itself, this happened a couple of times the other day on a 1 hour drive and it's happened in the past. I have the regular factory cd player with the indash changer.

Just to double-check, your head unit has a single CD slot and then you have the CDC too but no Sound system/premium audio? Then it does not have any AGW which could have been the source. It could be the head unit overheating, some units have an option for an additional fan too.

Headunit with single disc & cassette player / Logic 7 = AUDIO50, or Headunit with single disc player (no cassette) / Logic 7 = COMAND without navigation more than likely, as DB mentioned, the AGW (Audio Gateway or amplifier) needs to be replaced. The AGW should be checked for stored fault codes through SDS (Star Diagnosis). Earlier versions are known to overheat due to poor ventilation most especially when playing music at max volume for extended time.

Part #A2118706989 List $1150 Net $920

Ok i had this issue as well. I had a bad sam unit in the rear the was shoring out and causing power draw issues. the car would shut down the radio and ac randomly and give me error codes for all sorts of systems. Took the dealership literally 3-4 months to figure it out and it was a step by step testing of every system involved because it was a random problem that only showed up at very odd times.

Is your radio the only thing shutting off? Cooling seats still work? ETC?

Typically if the amplifier is overheating and shutting off the radio will still display and function, just no sound.

If the radio is blacking out and will only display the mb star, it is very likely a COMMAND software issue. I would try updating radio to latest software with the CD, this may resolve your issue (as well as several other potential glitches).

Nah, listen to Konigstiger man, he knows what he's talking about, you need to replace the AGW, I did and all my problems went away. Look for one of the new generation ones that has the fan already on it on eBay, I picked up mine for around $300. Worth every penny.

If I am under factory warranty, should MB cover this? Anyone have luck getting the resolved via dealer?

If you are under warranty and have the problem, they should be able to diagnose it and replace the AGW at no charge.

I think when this problem began they made a piggy-back fan for the older units, but then replaced them with newer units that have the fan integrated.

Im out of warranty, so I would consider purchasing a upgraded unit, you said I can find one on ebay? can this be easily installed by a professional instead of going to the stealer?

Hi, it can be a DIY job, it is relatively easy, just remove the side panel, move the SAM over, take out 4 nuts and get the AGW out, unplug all the wires and plug the new one in.

$300 to shotgun an AGW, or $12 to shotgun an update.....

I am not a big fan of throwing parts without diag....worst case if you do the update you gain some funtionality (like est time of arrival in nav)
