BMW 2003 325xi
Smile Possible new E320 owner

Hi.

I am looking for a family car for my wife. I have my eye on a 2005 E320 Wagon w/ 4Matic. Think it has the standard options.

89,000 miles, and I have been quoted $17850. (I read on here that the Midwest has higher prices than the coasts). Good price? (Private car lot; not a dealer).

First, is this a good reliable car? I really have no idea when it comes to Mercedes-Benz. I bought my BMW from the same lot (2003 in 2006) and it has been a dream come true. Rock solid reliability and a dream to drive. I am hoping this will be that way for my wife.

Second, what is there to look for when buying a used E320 Wagon? Any thing special I should check? I have my test drive later today.

Thanks so much.

What part of the midwest are you from? Because they are usually cheaper than that. That's too high for that vehicle. And a little too much miles(considering its been out 3-4 years..thats about 20k-30k+ a year). On autotrader I'm seeing most price ranges 17k - 22k, for 03-05 e320 models with about 60 - 80k miles. They are reliable, the problems usually stem from electronics issue.

edit: But I don't see that many wagons, one only actually.

Will never understand why people buy wagons but to each his own.

Good luck with the purchase...

If you are set on an E wagon, buying one with lower mileage and CPO warranty would worth the extra expense.

We had an 99' BMW wagon (E39 chassis) and it was one of the best cars
I had owned. After putting 175K miles on, it was forecasted to require
some $ investment to replace worn parts which would have been more
than the car value so we traded it in while it still had some value.

I actually started looking for another 03, or 04 wagon as it was the same body style but ended up buying an 03' E320 sedan.

After reading a lot of the info on this forum of recalls and potential issues with the W211 E class, Im so glad I purchased it with a 100K warranty. Its been a great car so far and havent had to exercise any warranty issues but nice to know its there.
