How to remove air vent?

The wheel for the air vent on the passenger side in the dashboard is not working. The wheel can go up and down, but does not close the air vent.

I would like to have a look at the inner workings of the mechanism but after removing the panel on the side and removing a bolt (Please see attached photo of the bolt that I removed), I am not sure what to do next to pull out the air vent.

Does anyone know how to remove the air vent?

Thanks!

The top part of the ventilation grill needs to be removed first as well as the instrument panel strip. Screws appear both at the top and the bottom, behind the wood strip.

Hello Diesel Benz,

If I understand you correctly, I need to remove the wood strip and underneath the strip are screws. Is the wood strip held in place by clamps or screws and can I just pull that off?
What do you mean with instrument panel strip? The part above the wood panel surrounding the ventilation grill?

Thanks!

Sorry if I was not clear. I mean you have to remove the wood strip (the trim strip on the instrument panel). It does not have screws, pry off very carefully, preferably with a mounting wedge tool (or similar).

In addition you have to remove the small grill on top of the nozzle. There is a screw behind that too. According to the instructions the small grill should come off if you put a flat screwdriver horizontally, pointing to the front of the car, to the first row opening, the last but one hole towards the centre of the car. Pry off carefully to avoid scratches or breaking the grill.

Thanks for the instructions. I looked at it last weekend. I could not find the screw behind the small grill and I was worried about breaking the wood strip as well. I'll probably have a professional look at this.

Thanks anyway for your help.

You mean you did take the small grill on top off but did not find a screw? There could always be a model year change but I don't remember one mentioned.

I'm not sure what you mean with the small grill as the grill is one piece.

It may look like it was one piece but it isn't, unless you have some odd parts in your car.

Thank you both!
Based on Diesels directions and the instruction which murman referred me to, I was able to get the air vent out. I also found some instuctions in the forum at Bentley Publishers on how to remove the trim.
Luckily the mechanism of the air vent just got disconnected and was fixed by pushing it back in.

Thanks!
