whoa wait a second guys...Your telling me that the Nav-TV unit doesn't work on the E-Class command? I think your wrong, I also think that midcity engineering also has a similar solution for video in motion on the US spec commands. Those units installed about about $650 or so. I've got one on my 03 W215 plays my ipod video on nav screen no issues. I would do some research my friend. Midcityengineering.com and nav-tv.com are good starting places. Also, a company called Dietz I believe does bypass units for a number of german car makers. If you don't find any luck there they may be right. However, these units that I am talking about require an external video source (you can't use your CD slot) you either need a mobile DVD player in the glove box, ($100) small enough to fit and still give you some room, or if your IPOD savvy and can convert your video files to MP4, use the video ipod its great. If you want to go really nuts, which some of my friends have (real tech guys, they drive Audi haha) they have similar nav-tv set ups but run the Apple TV unit. It is basically a bluetooth harddrive that syncs up to a computer either in their house of if the laptop has been brought into the car and loads all your itunes and itunes video stuff right onto it everytime you pull in the garage. So you are constantly updated and it is all wireless no transfer of Ipod or anything it just zaps it right to the box. Pretty nuts. But yea, sorry for the rant but I'm pretty sure there are like 101 things you can do to get some type of video on that stock nav screen.

There should be an auxilarly connection in your glove box. Get a lead wire and attached it to your ipod and into the aux and your set. It will not play your videos though, just music.

Seriously, if we talk about OEM parts, I doubt you can do it with no money. If you talk about after market equipment, I don't see how you could get those for free either. The discussion anyway was about US cars before NTG2.5 Comand.
Why not share the info you have?

You didn't spend any money? Where did you steal the parts from?

So,
HAPPY PART:
I went to Hoehn Motors Inc. a official MB dealership in San Diego.. Friendly, friendly and again, friendly people, not stuck up whatsoever and super helpful. I got squeezed in at 7.30 in the morning on short notice to get VIM enabled through SDS...
SAD PART:
After 1.5 hours of trial and error the shop foreman gave up. Couldn't find the setting in SDS. They DID NOT CHARGE me those 1.5 hours and I like this since I was the lab rate for this I assume.
QUESTION:
Can someone give me some detailed instructions I can give this mechanic to get this finally done please?
Who knows the SDS menu and/or the application and can help me with this. I will through some German chocolate and gummy bears as my appreciation.
Please help me with some info to finally close this toiling chapter of my life!!!

2005 E500 with 'some' BRABUS upgrades
There is a solution to this problem. No more buying a EURO command. I know of a shop that recently started carrying a product that allows the US Nav to play DVDs and can also install a back up camera and have it run off your US Nav. PM me for details and I will gladly put you in touch with the right people.
I personally will be getting the feature and a few others already have.

So that could mean that my old US Comand has a DVD-ROM in it even against the information we all have that US Comand don't have DVD-ROMs?

1- a Euro COMAND - pretty much any model
2- a VERY early US COMAND that were the first ones produced for US cars - these will appear in some 2003 and possibly very early 2004 cars.
Assuming you have one of the rare US models listed above, you will need to change the mode to a W211 ECE mode and it will change the SAT button to watch DVD video. You will also get a DVD Video logo beside the Compact Disc Digital Audio logo when you insert a disc in slot 0.
After the early 2004 model COMAND units, Mercedes/Becker changed enough hardware inside the units where US models did not contain the circuitry to decode DVD video, although they have the optics to read DVD discs in slot 0. Therefore, you can burn a DVD-DL disc with 8.4GB of MP3s on it, which is nice, but it will NOT play DVD video. This unit was produced up until around 2006 from what I understand. The 2007 onwards only contain CD-ROM optics in slot 0 and will not read any type of DVD disc whatsoever. So unless you have one of the very rare and very early US COMAND units, no matter what is done in SDS you will not be able to watch DVD movies in your car - in motion or otherwise.

I can't say it enough anymore. I bought a Euro COMAND and in my car by now. I can watch DVD movies but only while under 10 mph. I went to the dealer and the hooked up SDS but the shop foreman who worked on it and tried to enable Video in Motion (VIM) could not find it on his laptop.
My original US COMAND has Date of Manufacturing: 45/03 on the label.
