Mercedes E220 CDI
Mercedes E220 cdi 2004 TCU reset

From 2-3 weeks ago my car doesn't rev more than 2000.I've just read today your advice to reset the TCU.I've done it and it works. The only problem is that it works only the first 10-20 seconds and the goes back as it was.I don't understand why it does it,it drives lovely after it has been reset in the begining and then very slow.Could it be the kick down switch?I would be very gratefull if you can give me advice!Thank you!

Sorry mate I need your help.I've got a problem with my car. When I drive it it doesn't go over 2000 rpm and changes gears.Even when I push the pedal to the bottom still the same.I've reset the TCU as instructed and there is huge difference, but only in the first 10-20 seconds then goes back to as it was.Any idea what it may be?Thank you in advance!

This worked like a charm on the 2nd attempt. Here is exactly how I did it and it why it worked (talked to an MBZ tech)

1 - unlock with remote, sit inside close the door.
2 - (do not start car) turn key until dash lights come on or 2 clicks (do not start car)
3 - floor it, make sure you get the kick down (down) -button under gas pedal-
4 - Keep it floored like you're in last place for 20 seconds (yes count to 20)
5 - while KEEPING it floored, turn the key back to off (leave key in) AND
6 - KEEP it Floored for 3 minutes (yes count) after 180 seconds
7 - release pedal, count to 10 - start car and enjoy

Please note your foot should have not left the pedal for 200 seconds
Once you floored it, do not release until step 7

Your key should never leave the ignition during reboot

Do not touch any buttons i.e. radio, windows, seat adjust NOTHING Just sit there

YOU WILL NOT HEAR ANYTHING DURING THIS PROCESS OTHER THEN YOUR CLOCK TICKING YOUR ANXIETY TO HURRY THE TIME UP SO YOU CAN UNLEASH THE NEW BEAST.

My throttle response and shift points were dramatically more present. it just feels better and you shall see for yourself, if you just simply follow the easy steps.

That makes no sense. Once key is off circuit 15 turns off and gas pedal is no longer monitored or energized sorry.

What you're saying makes perfect sense to me as well !!
But it did only work for me this way -

So for anyone using my steps, feel free to let off the pedal
after 20 seconds or stay on it as I did. Although It worked for me
this way.

This worked like a charm on the 2nd attempt. Here is exactly how I did it and it why it worked (talked to an MBZ tech)

6 - (not mandatory you "can" skip this step) KEEP it Floored for 3 minutes (yes count) after 180 seconds
7 - release pedal, count to 10 - start car and enjoy

(not mandatory to keep it floored)

The original steps worked for me. I've done this twice but it doesn't make much sense since I drive like "driving miss daisy" 99% of the time. It only takes a day or two to get 'lazy' again. the sounds that you may hear are the systems shutting down. I love listening to the car shut down and wake up when I unlock or open the front doors. I'm a nerd :-)

does TCU reset void warranty?

does TCU reset void warranty? Also what about any codes/updates that have been installed- will that be cleared with TCU reset?

Perfect explanation!!!

thanks for reply.. Just to clarify the procedure I am talking about is :

(0.) Get into the driver's seat, and make sure all doors, windows, and sunroof is closed.
(1.) Turn the ignition key to the on (not start) position. <== Position #2 where all the lights on the dash turn on but NOT to where the engine turns on!
(2.) Press the gas pedal to the floor and hold for five seconds.
(3.) Turn the key to the "off" position (don't remove the key), then release the gas pedal. <== I personally keep the gas pedal depressed for 5-10 additional seconds AFTER I turn off the key.
(4.) Wait at least two minutes for "TCU "to reset. (key in) <== Very important to leave the key in the ignition!

So this is not a TCU reset rather it resets tranny shift patterns and has no impact on warranty or any software updates, correct? How often you think you should reset it? I bought my car used and seems a little sluggish.

It really doesn't matter if the radio is on or off or if windows are up or down. I leave the radio turned on so I'm not bored while waiting.

Just Put the key in ignition, turn to pos 2, floor pedal for 5 to 20 seconds (nobody really knows who long it really takes), turn key back to off, leave it in the ignition though, then release gas pedal, wait until your cluster goes off (that's when your CAN-B CAN-Bus shuts down) and remove the key. Lock the car if you want or need to so you can go back inside the house.

That's it.

It does NOT reset any firmware or what not. It simply resets the TCU's adaptation values. If one wants an even more thorough reset of the TCU's adaptation values, one needs a SD. But I DO NOT recommend doing that unless there are major shifting issues and the transmission stutters and doesn't shift smoothly.

Keep in mind, that transmission needs (and I think this is unconfirmed) 40 gear shifts to adapt but it keeps adapting constantly afterward to the current driving style.

Reset works on 96 c280

Reset works on a 96 C280 following the process on this thread.
Was experiencing gear 3-4 slipping about 5-10 minutes into a drive.
Playing with the gas pedal seemed to 'help' it shift.
This went on for a few weeks until it eventually stopped shifting and no amount of pedal play helped.
Was looking at about 5k to repair a potential trans issue but decided to try this out before giving in.
Good as new - gear shift works perfectly.
Normally don't comment on these forums but had to do it on this one so that the next guy can know that this can potentially be a fix for weird gear shift issues that dont appear to be mechanical because they only happen after a specific amount of time driving.
hope it helps someone as it did for me.
Big thanks for this tip!!!

Reset worked!!

For those skeptics. I was having sporadic shift patterns from 1-2 and 3-2. I followed the instructions for the reset and my 2011 E350 has awaken!! The reset actually worked, even if it only reset the shift patterns to factory specs. Thanks!!!
