Next two mods - TEASER

Well, not much of a teaser as you'd need to be blind not to figure out what I'm doing to my car next. Everything should be here next week and I'm attempting the installs myself with a little help from somebody thats a bit smarter than me.

What's not shown is a wiring harness that I still need to purchase. Apparently, it attaches to the rear SAM. Gonna find out exactly how hard this is gonna be very soon. There will also need to be some SDS coding done.

And remember, I'm already lowered by SDS. Can't wait to see how low it goes with double lowering.

Is it possible to get the electronic lowering done if Airmatic isn't put in from the beginning (factory)?

No sir. You must have the airmatic suspension in order to take advantage of the numerous lowering solutions. If you have springs, your only solution is lowering springs. Try H&R or Eibach

Maybe. I've fallen in love with the 2005+ SL's but with two rugrats, it doesn't make sense. But when have I ever done anything that makes sense? You can pick up a 2005 SL55 for just a little over 50K. It's almost like free.

You can purchase from a certain sponsor (MBenzNL) for 1500.00 EURO, which is about 2100.00 US. Comes complete with everything including instructions.

I found mine used from a member for considerably less but it's missing a wiring harness and instructions.

The lowering module is nice. I just can't bring myself to pay all that money for one. Good luck with the trunk closer though, just from my experience, it's the one option on our CL500 I wish we didn't have.

No offense to anyone, but IMHO, the SL is very much lacking in many aspects of a Mercedes compared to a CL. I think you pay all that money and don't really get as much as you should. I have about seven friends who's dads have SL500's or SL55's or SL550's. They're nice, but the craftsmanship of the car (interior and exterior) just isn't up there as I think it should be. One of my friends came in the CL500 and was amazed with the interior quality and just the whole package. Idk why they hold their value better than other top end Benzes and why they are so popular. The only thing for me is the hardtop convertible, but honestly I'd rather have an SLK55 or (dare I say?) new M3 or even a 911 Targa over an SL550. They are more rare and hard to find around. In my area, SL's are honestly a dime a dozen. Just my opinion, to each his own.

I have to say that I kinda sucks that we (who don't have the Airmatic from the factory) are stuck with not being able to put that in afterwards.

Idk, don't feel so unlucky. You can always change up your suspension and lower it too, for far less money than I can. And you don't have the rupturing air spring problem.

Part of this is true and part is not exactly true.

True - Definitely will never have to worry about rupturing air springs.

Not exactly true - It can be much, MUCH cheaper to lower an airmatic car. You can actually lower these cars for under $1.00, using the washer method. Many of us have done it but it's not for the feint of heart. Heck, there's 2 washers in my front right now.

Lol, yes I forgot about the washer method . I was thing about ELM and STAR only. I've heard negatives about washer method, but how are you guys doing with that (not trying to jack the thread)?

I'm using the washers as an interim solution until my ELM arrives. Which should be here this week. The whole car is lowered via SDS but the front just needed a little bit more to make the rake right. If you go 3 or more washers, you have very little thread on that bolt to tighten the nut to and you increase the risk of the nut coming off. If that happens, you're in a world of hurt. Some people have used lock-tite on the nut with success.

As a matter of fact, in the years that I've been a member here, I haven't heard of anyone having any trouble with the washer method. There are horror stories of lore floating around though.
