iPhone
I am thinking of getting one but want to make sure that it works well - ie downloads the contacts onto the Command screen, connects well, etc.- before I do. I can't seem to find info on it.
If it's obvious I apologize for asking the same question again.
Thanks

While you are too busy to read existing posts, perhaps you can state your location a bit more accurately, otherwise those who are less busy need to provide multiple answers for each assumed location.
In Europe the current iPhone (both versions) SW does not support phone book download. It used to work with the first generation phone and first SW. I've understood that it works at least with some of the US BT adapters.

I've searched the Apple forums and I found something that seems to indicate the new 3G doesn't work with the puck in the Benz. I was under the impression that they did. I'll need to dig deeper.
Phonebook downloads onto both the Command screen and instrument cluster.
If I'm listening to iPod, radio, CD, or using NAV, and a call comes in, the music will automatically mute. When done with the call, the previous function resumes.
I have version 2.0.2 on my 3G

Perhaps you could post your BT adapter part number, it should be safe for LRM1 then to buy the same part.

That is EXACTLY what I have: a 2008 E350 with an iPhone 3G. Here's the lowdown:
- Addressbook downloads
- Recent dialed and received downloads
Here are the problems
- There is an "echo" with the phone. The problems is supposedly tied to the 3G radio and is present on many 3G phones (not only the iPhone)
- The Benz bluetooth does not disconnect or turns off when you get out of the car. So, if you're anywhere near your car (like in a room in front of the driveway) the car insists on "grabbing" your call because the phone is still connected to the car. This is a MAJOR PAIN IN THE A** with Mercedes' BT.
- If you try to listen to a voicemail while in the car, the phone will show "BT" but the voicemail feature does not transfer to the car. You have to swith the voicemail from BT to speaker in order to listen to the voicemail (a workaround is to dial your cell phone number and listen to your voicemail that way).
- The BT puck downloads the addressbook every single time you get in the car so it takes sometimes a minute (or three) for the addressbook to become available.
- The E350's Comand doesn't have the "Details" option on the screen (The ML does). So on long name entries you don't have a way to tell between a person's home and cell number as all you get is the name truncated twice with "..." at the end.
Connectivity is excellent. Sound quality is very clear.
Hope this helps,
Jose

Jose, thanks alot. Looks like I'll go for the iPhone. The problems you have listed I currently have with my Rzr. If I'm standing in my sideyard, the car picks up the call from 20 feet away in the driveway. Drives me nuts.
I think that may be a whole MB BT issue. SOunds like it will work the same.

To follow up with what Jose (baxterdown) said above, realize that the iphone 3G will not charge in the ipod MB puck because the new 3G phone does not have the firewire charging pin outs that the older original iphone did, which does charge in the MB puck. So, what you need to do to have the MB puck charge the 3G phone while it's plugged into the MB puck is to buy an adapter from Ridex here: http://home.swipnet.se/ridax/connector.htm?connipod.htm
Plug this into the MB puck and the phone into this unit. The cool thing is that it also has a small miniUSB out to charge other phones, equipment, etc.
With regard to the bluetooth and proximity to the car while you're in the house, as Jose mentions, I just turn off theh bluetooth on the iphone, which takes only seconds and restart bluetooth when I'm leaving the house for use in the car.
That's my two cents.
