How to figure out remaining fuel in tank?

My previous E showed content of fuel tank in gallons. However new E shows remaining miles. It is hard to estimate actual distance because car doesn't know what type of driving it can expect, however I know. Is there any other way to figure out actual remaining fuel? Wife thinks that number bars in gas gauge is amount of gallons.
BTW any tank size change? Previous was 21 gallons and if consider that fuel warning gets shown when 2 gallons remained, then E class tank size is 19.5 gallons now.

My 2003 did not show remaining gallons, it was changed with STAR and now it displays gallons and mileage remaining. You should be able to get it changed with STAR, not sure if dealer would do it though.

That is interesting. Is there some sort of a service part number for this to ask for?

How does it look like? Both infos on the same page in your cluster display or on 2 separate display pages to scroll through?

I am not sure the dealer would do it unless you found a mechanic there who knew something. I had it done by a guy who has STAR, he's the one who installed my Euro folding mirrors. It adds gallons remaining to the same screen that mileage remaining is on in the cluster. Fuel light usually comes on around 2.4 gallons remaining IIRC. Not sure why Mercedes left this feature turned off in the cluster, at least in the '03.

Dealer won't be able to set it. It requires the "engineering" version of the DAS. Not sure if the special, roving MB techs have the capability.

Yes, Steve could. Sunil did mine before he opened Motorwerks http://mwhouston.com/ Those are the only two for sure that could do it, there may be others.
