All's Well That Ends Well !

Thanks to all for following the tale of woe. Thanks Konigstiger for the part numbers!

Total cost out of Pocket is $140 for the wheel locks (got hit hard on those.. a different Parts Guy ordered them -
(Part Number 6-6-47-0155), and $50 deductible on the Comprehensive.

Parts guy who ordered the new wheels/valves/hub caps & stuff wrote them up at really decent prices. Also had a fair & reasonable adjuster. Their check is in the mail. I'm happy... the "old" tires had 18,000 on them. Now I have all new.

Hey... I also get to keep a little black shopping bag with an MB logo on it that the wheel locks came in. Much too classy an operation for me!

The real question is, can you do a reverse tomahawk slam dunk on that basketball hoop on your garage?

Barry, so sorry to hear about your wheels getting jacked...but glad to see you back on the road again! Should keep an eye out on ebay and Craigslist for your rims.

I think the next purchase is a surveillance camera to shine down from the window above...If the crooks come by to try again, you can at least get a look at them. My hunch is that they are people who know the area and have scoped out the cars in advance. If they see the sweet new rims on your car, they may try again. Glad you were able to recover well from such a terrible incident.

I was thinking the same thing, same car , new rims/tires in the same driveway.

BTW Barry, I find it incredible that those blocks didn't scratch the underneath
of the side panels.

The adjuster looked. I guess now that you mention it, I'll have to go look myself. With my post operative neck & crappy physique, maybe I'll have the dealer put it on the lift.

Is so weird... after being on blocks all week (till late Friday), its back in the same place looking like it always did... and don't think I'm not concerned about them coming back, although the wheels have MB locks on them now, & I can't sit on a chair all night & watch.

...and what's a fat 58 year old guy in his underwear gonna do against a few guys with tire irons?

Another way to look is with a small mirror and flashlight. You can reflect the light off the mirror and get a good look. I've actually taken photos that way.

And, of course, you're absolutely right, your safety is more important than confrontation.
I'm assuming that putting it in the garage is not an option ?

Wife insists her car goes into the 1 car garage, since she takes it to the L.I. Railroad to commute to NYC. She's on the train at 6:55 AM & has the start/pull out/drive to station & park timed to the nano second. I drive to work to arrive there at 9:30 & don't open my eyes in bed till 9 AM, so I have to give her the commuting advantage in the AM... especially since she then doesn't have any delay to wipe snow or wait for defrosters etc.

We've lived here 22 years & its the first time any car's been bothered... plus the wheels now have locks which are recessed very far into the wheel. They won't want to beat up the wheels so maybe they'll pass on my stuff next time.

Glad you got them replaced so quickly, and without getting ripped off by your insurance company! I guess your $50 deductible paid off.

Glad to see everything worked out Barry. Always keep an eye out for cars you don't usually recognize, I always try to do that (this coming from a guy who lives in a gated community. I guess I am paranoid). The chances of them striking at you again is more narrow since they figure you're gonna be on the lookout so they might hit someone else in the neighborhood.

They had to be really good to not let the tilt sensor go off. I know for the ones we have manufactured in Taiwan (I'm in the auto security business actually) that the slightest movement one way will trigger, but then again OEMs are never as sensitive to reduce nuisence. My friend had his 07 escalade keyed once and asked me to have made for him a custom radar sensor that when someone touched the exterior of the car, it would send an electric shock to that point of touching .

Btw, +1 on your paint color, Granite is awesome.

I can't believe that happened in the park!! I used to live on Koehl and I had a house on Fulton. I'm glad you escaped relatively unscathed, but man for that much work It would have been nice to have a nice custom set.

RE: New Wheels and Rubber

It looks like your local MB Center took excellent care of things, and you came out just fine...and even got new tires a bit early. All is well that ends well; I am getting some locking lugs for mine...with the present economy who knows what might happen these days.

just saw this thread. Glad to see everything worked out.

J/W how they pulled it off? Your car is right off the road plus sidewalk and it looks if it's clearly visible by your neighbors... nobody saw anything? I hope your side skirts didn't get scratched by those bricks.

An online buddy of mine told me how its done with no jacks! PM me. I don't want to post theft instructions.

Yes, the dealer was fair in their pricing to me. I used to know everyone at the place, but Group One purchased the place about a year ago & all my buddies are gone. Its much more professional now. A little leaner & more efficient.

(I had polished wheels not painted on the car from the factory, but these new ones really have a hi shine on the polished areas.) The new wheel lock set is a really well made solid item. Hope they help.

I keep looking for the wheels on Craigs List & eBay...haven't seen them. Cops say, they've been looking for the guys for about 6-8 weeks. They are targeting Lexus & MB vehicles.

With no jacks? I guess the car was fixed on bricks, then tires get flatted.
