Headlamp replacement instructions incomplete???
Hi everyone. Did a search but could not find an answer...
Need to replace our driver-side low-beam halogen bulb. Hard copy manual and on-line manual appear to be missing a step:
http://www4.mercedes-benz.com/e/cars...html#d13e44142
Open the hood: check.
Turn housing cover.... wait a minute! How do I get to the back of the housing beforehand??? There's no explanation for this in the manual!
What step is missing in the manual? All help greatly appreciated.
Murray

The housing cover is on the back side of the headlamp, it is made of soft ruber with a hard plastic ring, which must be turned. That will give you access to the plug. Unplug the harness and unhook the clip that holds the bulb, be careful not to loose it.

I can't figure out how to access the backside of the headlamp assembly. There's no way I can get a hand back there. You'd have to be E.T. to fit a hand back there... there's a coolant tank in the way, it appears.

My MB service adviser replaced the driver side headlight last year while I watched.........he unscrewed the nut that hold the reservoir by the light so he could access the light fixture. Just be careful not to drop the nut into the engine compartment like he did and he had to get a replace nut from the parts department.

It looks like the first version of W211 uses metal bolt to hold down the reservoir, but new ones (07+) use plastic clips. I also broke my clip as well and used a plastic tie to tie it down. Doesn't look as bad.
