The audio system you have has nothing to do with the cd reading mp3's - its the cd changer that can't read them mp3's. Your solution, get an external mp3 player like an IPOD and hook it up to your car.

we can do that, but we dont need an mp3 player, 7 discs is enough

I've got the HK and the CD changer and I wish I had an aux input for my iPod, particularly since the HK/changer can't read MP3 CDs. Just for the sake of variety if nothing else. Even 7 CDs limits you to a few dozen tracks, and you're in that same set on long trips. A high capacity MP3 player like an iPod or other hard disk based system holds literally thousands, making the audio thing rarely repetitious, and providing you with the ability to group even *randomly selected* songs within a genre.

So you could have a "twisty roads' playlist and an open highway cruising playlist and a 'chill me out after a rough workday" list etc.

All we need is a simple mini-stereo plug input....but you don't get that on the HK and you cannot use a cassette adapter since the tape door needs to latch *closed* before it will 'play', and that's hard to do with the wire leading back to the MP3 player.

Maybe the Nav will have the aux in like earlier NAVs had....

Mini AUX input is helpful, but you still have problems like: can't control iPod from steering wheel buttons, can't display iPod screen on MB radio display. So, you need to prepare something to listen before your ride and if you want to change something when you drive, then it could be more dangerous than to operate a cell phone.
Regarding where we get MP3s? I just rip my CD collection (over 300 disks).

I actually found that you can play mp3s using a tape adaptor. However, you will hear a low beeping sound every now and then from the speakers telling you that the cassette door is open. I find mp3s don't sound too great using the tape adaptor. There's a huge difference between using a tape adaptor and listening to ripped cds (the ripped cds obviously sounding better).

The number & capacity of the of discs is not the point, but we can organize the mp3s much better. We can arrange thongs by artist or by genre.

I record my cd’s from my PC (originally mp3s) this takes time so if I can use a high capacity MP3 player this can save time, but it seems it is imposable.

I live in Egypt.

No Jack?

I'm sorry to hear the 03 'E does not have an external aux input. My 2000 'E with Comand has one in the glove box and it works great with an external mp3 player. It's really the only way to go. I have a CD changer, but now I never use it with 2000 mp3s available on my player. Most of them are coded at 320, so they sound great. I plan to get an 04 'E, so I hope that it includes a jack. Also maybe PhatNoise will finally support MB (they do BMW!). That would be the best solution.

iPod

Bless you, Murhi2, for mentioning the iPod. It is the best digital device for MP3 playback. I am hoping the the NAV has an internal input.

Broken Link

Is the hyperlink broken? I can't get to it with my browser. Can anyone post another link or describe the other "device"?

Thanks.

Worked fine for me this morning - probably their site is down. Well, its an Mp3 player like any other with two versions (128mb and 20GB). The key thing here is that it has a built in FM transmitter so that you dont have to buy a seperate crappy one and it trasmits using digital encoding like a radio station does. I'd like to read reviews about it - I'll probably do that this weekend. The products are stated not available till Feb 10th though.

Kazaa. And when that gets shut down there will be many others.

So, consensus anyone on how to get MP3 playing in my E320? Dodgy FM transmitter? Some mod? Or, "not"?

I would recommend KaZaa Lite instead in order to avoid the pop-up window spam.
