Probably a couple of weeks after you placed the order. It will depend on the volume of E cars that MB has right now.

I ran into the same question with my car. I had to order it back on Oct 11, and it was built late Nov, with a Dec 18 delivery. I was able to make changes until LATE October.. about the 21st or so. Figure about 30 days before production of the car to make changes. I added the rear sunshade at the last minute...

It really depends on what you want to add. Some "options" can be added at the VPCs at the port. Some must be added at the factory. The dealer can track the "cutoff" date for factory option/accessory changes and keep you informed. The dealer can also let you know when your cutoff would be for VPC changes.

Remember that Mellow is in Kuwait and his car will probably not go thru a VPC.

Mellow...did you ever find out where it will be built? Your dealer can probably make a guess as to the build date. In the US you can make changes up until a date close to the build date. There is a cutoff for final changes.

Thanks etenn, I didn't notice that Mellow is in Kuwait.

Mellow, a VPC here in the US is a "Vehicle Preparation Center". MB sends the cars by ship to a port of entry where MBUSA maintains a final preparation center for passing customs, adding accessories not done at the factory and final preparation of the cars for delivery to the dealers. From the VPC, cars are trucked on car carriers to dealerships.

It seems that you will need to follow the advice of etenn and have your dealer give you the best indication of the cutoff for changes.

Another thing you might do is find out the experience of others as to particular options/accessories. Around this forum, many posts have been made evaluating the options and accessories. You can search using the name of the option using the "search" function above. Also, you can start a new thread with and list the items you are considering and asking for the input of forum members. Believe me, you will get lots of opinions to help you make up your mind!!!

Good luck and keep us posted on your purchase and delivery.

Jeff,
Thank you for your timeley description of the VPC, i now remeber that on our final quote it said vehicle preperation and warranty charges, as it turns out there is only one mercedees dealer in kuwait so i would imagine that vehicle prep is carried out @ the dealership rather than the port in this case, as for the options im considering, ive already asked members of the board in an earlier post about the panoramic sunroof , and your right they have been nothin but supportive! i thought id get the dealers last word on weather or not i can change an option prior to killing you guys with more of my questions, but heres another one, my pops said he didnt care much what color the car was so i orderd based on the opinions of the rest of the faiy and we got tealite blue, i would think that is the equivalent of platinum blue in the us, so anyways we showed him the colour on the road the oter day and he complained that 'it had no character' , he prefers brilliant silver , which was my initial choice however i feel telaite blue is more exclusive, what do you think jeff?
heres a pic of tealite blue to avoid confusion , by the way note the color comb on this model we almost got the biege interior since all the cars i saw @ the dealer had the same blue on biege theme (this pic i took @ an independant paralell importers lot), funnily enough on the mercedes catalouge those two colors are marked as 'not recommended'....i think it looks great, was wooried about keepin it clean though, so we opted for blue leather instead, your opinions?

IMO

Tealite blue is a nice new age color (brilliant silver is a classic but everyother car is that color) besides my car in the states was silver so I was bored of that color already.. having said that, I have seen all the interior combos with tealite blu except blue and I can tell you that if you must go with a light interior go with ASH it suits it best.. the beige imo looks cheesy with tealite blu. just my humble opinion
