S-B-01.30/23 OCT08 All passenger and light truck models equipped with engine M272 (350) and M273 (550) engine. Oil seepage from the engine, cause could be the expansion plugs on the back of the cylinder heads. To resolve plugs will be replaced with part #s A0009985590 (2 small plugs) and A0009985690 (1 large plug).

Is it a recall ? Could I take it in for the replacement ? ... They just fixed a leaking valve-cover which was causing my oil level to go down (according to the dealer it was very minor, I dont believe him - It was 1/3rd down in 1500 miles)

Thanks Konigstiger, You're an asset to this website

Cannot see how they could have missed this if seepage was present in this area anyway yes bring it in for peace of mind. Not a recall or service campaign but rather a DTB instructing technician to replace current expansion plugs with modified replacements under warranty, extended warranty, and “arguably” out of warranty.

Two small plugs part #A0009977670 replaced by A0009985590
Large plug A0009977870 replaced by A0009985690

dipstick

I asked the service manager if my dipstick had been changed (there was a recall on 06s) and he checked the VMI and confirmed it was changed out. This morning I checked the oil level and was surprized to see the dipstick had a red top ring ... I remember it used to be yellow ............... also, I didnt notice any color improvement in the oil (they added 1/3rd of the oil) ......... I wonder whats going on ? ....
Also, how can I know my oil level from the instrument panel ? ( I've read some posts here the e500s have it)

thanks

I own an 08 E550. So should I take it in just for this or just wait until the next service is due in a year?

U could take it in during your regular service. now if you see oil dripping then run to your dealer.
