Gear refuses to change while cruising

Gear refuses to change while cruising
Guys, I wonder if there is anyone out there experiences the same problem? My 2003 W211 E240 UK Specs model seems dislike to engage into gear 2 while cruising at low speed (approx. below 20miles, 1000 to 2000rpm)
This is annoying because the car would drag for miles (in gear 1, I presume) if I continue cruising at that speed. Worst still, if I release the accelerator pedal, the car slow down immediate causing unpleasant ride. However if I floor the pedal once I notice the problem, the gearbox would then engage into gear 2 and so on. I am still investigating and hope to seek some enlightenment from all the expert here. Thanks.

Have same problem. The thing will not upshift when cruising at times, especially after a uphill, downhill. Gonna see dealer on tuesday. I will let go of pedal and still nothing, would have to manual shift. None of my other cars have this problem, I can't control the shifting with my pedal input. My yukon denali is great at this, can tell the car exactly what to do with my pedal input.
