This is so stupid considering the best part of the designo package is the interior, and the Bluetec is already the most limited with interior choices (no 2-tone).
Yes, I agree. Is the designo graphite the one option offered on the W210s with the silver exterior and green interior? I did see ONE E55 that way and it was nice in an unusual way.

It's too bad MB is doing away with the nice options. I have a feeling that the new W212 will offer us several new ones to choose from though.

Was designo interior available on the 2008 Bluetecs? It seems that MB always offers some extra nice option one year, but takes away something from the previous year - i.e. nice COMAND in 2009 but no designo interior. Same with ML - nice COMAND and facelift but AdBlue

Designo Graphite on the MY03-06 211 was designo Graphite paint graphite-green leather and I believe poplar wood. For the facelift, the interior leather became corteccia (dark grey) and the wood switched to Cinnamorra Matt.

Designo espresso was unchanged, always Mocha Black with Sand leather and Poplar wood, except for 2007, which was absoltely stunning with pastel yellow leather and umber maple wood, 2008 reverted back.

As we all know, designo only exists as two paint options for 2009 (Mocha Black and Graphite). What completely ruins it is the lack of 2-tone interior on the luxury-only models (S211, Bluetec) or AMG.

Replaced both front pads and rotors on ours at just over 20K miles. They were warped and you could feel it. No problems this time at 40K miles.

The designo graphite interior on our '05 doesn't really look green in person...it's just a different shade of grey. Wood is poplar. Here are a couple more pics:

That was known as "designo silver", with the black/green interior. I would love to get my hands on that interior for our cypress green '97 e320. Later on, I believe "designo silver" went back to a beige interior.

Sure wish they offerred a "designo mocha" interior & ventilated seats on the '09 GL's.

Where is this? MBUSA doesn't show any designo exterior colors

I would get an 07 for the following reasons:

7G Transmission
V6 is pretty damn rock solid
Looks
No SBC Brakes

Better Electronics - Much more reliable
More standard options
Looks better with the new bumper and rear taillights.

Ah yes, to top it off, MBUSA has decided to take all designo information off of the website. It can only be found in the brochure.

They can certainly carry more weight in relation to their body size.

I guess you have to ask yourself why you are getting a diesel in the first place. If its for mileage then I think the pre 07 wins. Right now in these parts diesels are a financial loser relative to the gas cars. Wish I knew if the price of diesel was going to drop enough in the future for it to make sense to buy one.

Mileage is a factor in my purchasing decision, but saving money on fuel is not the primary concern for me. What nobody ever mentions is this ... I don't like having to refuel every couple of days, I like having that 600 + range. Also, I intend on keeping this car for a long time, so I want the longevity of a diesel engine.

I would think that those reasons would point toward the Pre 07

Yep. The sound of and the smoothness of the gas car is better still but you don't get the range that he is looking for.

Is that average mileage or highway? If average what is the city highway split? If average and a reasonalbe mix the diesel could start paying for itself even with the current diesel / gas price ratio

In over 90k miles of driving, we have averaged 32.9 mpg (25-30% city, 70-75% hwy).
