Parktronic

As the owner of a new 500 E, I was wondering whether it is possible to retrofit with Parktronic (I doubt it is). What is the price on Parktronic? I have neck problems and would really benefit from Parktronic.

Those with Parktronic, Is it worth it?

Angry Parktronic

I have Parktronic on my new E320 and I am in dispute with Mercedes trying to get a refund for a feature which does not work as it is described in the Owner's Manual.
I would not advise ordering it since I firmly believe it is not worth the money spent.

I ordered parktronic on my car. I have test driven with it and am very impressed. It worked exactly as it was supposed to. I had not heard previously of anyone having problems with it.

I like it an find it very useful. It works great backing into the garage because I've got junk (that needs to be cleaned out) in the rear, and I'd hate to accidently hit it.

My Parktronic's Great!

The Parktronic on my 2001 E 430 4Matic works like a charm every time. One must, however, understand how it works. I read a previous post about someone assuming it would beep succesively faster as it approached an obstacle, as he had another car that did this. Guess what, it doesn't work that way. Instead, there are light bars in the front and rear overhead consoles that light up additional LEDs as the car approaches an obstacle. There is an audible alarm when the last two bars are lit up. One can easily and safely park within 8 inches of an obstacle with this system.

Among the various options which I ordered for my new car was the Parktronic feature. As described in the Owners' Manual, the audible function of this feature is supposed to begin to sound when the first visible light comes on when one is backing up. The sound is supposed to begin in an intermittent manner, speeding up as one gets closer to any obstacle behind the car. In fact, this is what I have observed in other vehicles which had this feature. One could almost rely solely on the sound to guide one into a parking spot. If here is no audible warning of nearing an obstacle when backing up until it is too late, (8 to 10 inches from the obstacle), this feature is useless and not worth the C$1500 plus tax which I paid for it. Moreover, this feature is described in the manual (on page 214) and certainly should adhere to its description.

i dont know about the person who asked for the refund, maybe theres a problem with the one on his car not functioning as its supposed to , however on our old w210 it was an amazing feature hence why we ordered it on our coming w211, the lexus has got one but its not as good as the one on mb since that one has indicators all over the car such that whatever area your approaching you can have an indicator nearby to check it, and as stated earlier the audible sounds also serve as backup if you dont want to look, the lex has a dumb little cartoon under the speedo which is not the first place your lookin at when your parking! then again my friends 911 dosent have an indicator period just audible warnings, comparisons aside the MB works amazing and is not an option to be missed , and to answer your original question, i dont know if it can be retrofitted, im figuring anything can be done if your willing to pay enough, and retrofitting those indicator and sensors aint gonna be easy or cheap, i have seen some after market parktronic systems from bosch though so you might try there if mb wont do it

Beg to Differ With psyrtash

"An intermittent acoustic warning signal will also sound as the seventh segment lights up and a constant acoustic warning lasting a maximum of 3 seconds will sound for the eighth segment".

That's the way mine works, and it's just the way I like it.

Regarding retrofitting, it would be very expensive. You'd need new front and rear bumpers, not to mention the instruments inside the car and replacement wood trim where the switch and displays are.

Very expensive yes, but not because of any wood trim issues. I am not sure of all of them, but my W211 does not have any wood trim near any PTS displays or controls. Also, the bumpers do not need replacing, just the bumper impact strips which are relative inexpensive. The true cost is in the electronics and wiring harnesses.

Works like a charm for me

NOTE: when pulling out or parking, turn down the music and actually look at the lights..

works too good for me. goes off even when i drive near flower leafs.

dont know if it can be retrofitted though, i want to add an electronic trunk closer now and cant find anyone to do it.

Ck. the wording (re Parktronic )in the owners manual (2003 E320) and compare the wording in the 20004 E320 owners manual. I had a 2003 E 320 and now I drive a 2004 E 320 4Matic.
They changed the wording regarding Parktronic in in the 2004.......
