True ... BUT, the A Class is not available in the US; hence, on this side of the pond, the entry level MB is the C Classl :p

Peace!

I went from a '98 W210 E320 to an '01 W203 C320 to the W211 E320. The C is smaller but still well done. The leather trim is the same as the E, depending upon whether you get partial or full leather in the US, and the appointments are similar to the E's. Just not quite as nice or as big, but still well done and well assembled. Why?

The C320 is $12,000 less than a similar E320, a similar S430 is $20,000 more. Apples and oranges, all.

The C320 at the time was what I preferred to a similar BMW or Audi. The reasons I went back to the E were shoulder room and the new design. 'No need to condemn what anyone buys, especially within the marque.

There is SO MUCH different about the C-class than the E-class that it shows me that he never even has driven an E-class. What a world of difference between the cars - can't wait to get back in my E500!!!
This is Schvetkaaks original, thread-starting post. Some of it was misinterpreted as this discussion has moved along. I quote it for reference sake.

Schvetkaaks is referring to member jimbanville. He (jimbanville) is a flame-baiter in the W211 forum. My .02 on him, YMMV.

Schvetkaaks does not deserve to be torn apart like he has been on this thread. The mean statistical age of this forum's populace is evident in the remarks made. Your various opinions of the "C-class rules, E-class sucks" ilk may very well change as you age and your needs mature.

Perhaps Schvetkaaks assumed too much in initiating this thread, thinking he'd get some civil, insightful, and informative responses with which to temper his own perceptions and experiences with the C-class. Perhaps he was just venting because he wanted to get back to the E-class. How many of you have not been put out because you paid for and expect to enjoy one thing, but instead have another thrust upon you? Have you ever bought a nice dinner, but it sucked? Or bought a new microbrew that you ended up not liking? Weren't you a bit put out over it?

How about when you go on that blind date and spend some good dough on it, only to find you'd been set up and forced to spend time and money on someone who was quite a bit less attractive than you had been led to believe?

The man is fortunate enough to drive some very nice cars (See his .sig), and he voices his personal opinion that he does not like the C-class, and people jump all over him like it was a personal insult. Seems like an inferiority complex to me (Attn: Philosophy 101 students).

Schvetkaaks returns his post to topic by again tying it in to jimbanville's comments.

I, for one, have to agree with Scvetkaaks. I can say this with a small bit of authority because I have and drive BOTH a 2003 C-320 AND a 2003 E-500. The C-320 is definitely less expensive. It's proportional handling-to-weight-to-engine size is somewhat nimbler than that of the E-500. However, the E-class's V-8 is a much smoother shifting, smoother accelerating, and more luxurious ride than that offered even by the C-class's 6 cylinder.

No personal offenses meant, no intention to hurt feelings, pride, ego, insecurity, or whatever. I'm just one of the only ones here to own and drive both, and thought you might like to hear from someone with a unique point of view on this matter.

I got your nut

Yep, that is me (or is it "I") that THOUGHT the G35 MAY be as good a car as the E based on numbers. If you bothered to read my other posts you'd see I drove both the E320 and G35. I discovered that the G35 was NOT as good a car as the E and that other than size, there was not alot of difference between the E320 and my C240 in power-to-weight, material quality, ride and fit/finish . These are MY OPINIONS. Am I entitled to them?
And what the heck does the fact that the new E class seems "bugy" based on the numbers of complaints-per-owner on this board have to do with either the C class or the G35?

We're ALL suckers! A car goes from point A to point B. A Hyundai will do just fine.

It is true: sometimes the finer things in life are wasted on some people who have the option.

Geeeeeeez.....another troll.

It seems he is a little mixed up

He has posted the following in the last few days since he signed up:

..."my e320 has a bluish tint to them but it doesnt say xenon lights is it possible i have them"

and in the thread about high pitched brake noise..

"...yep definitely a problem here to" (sic)

Wonder if he is trading in his "new E" on the new S?
Maybe when he gets his "new S" he can get the Caps fixed on his keyboard..doesn't seem to have any:p

This was all quite entertaining, but I don't quite have the energy to compete in this intellectual contest, so you'll have to settle for my ignorant rambling.

And yes, for what the E500 costs of course you would have to be a fool to buy it if a C240 would have met your needs.

Interestingly enough, I had both a C240 and a Buick Century as loaners in a couple of service calls. I think the Buick was actually more like the E500 than the C240. And they are all nice cars in different ways for different reasons. As much as I liked the Buick, I like the E500 more. (actually a lot more, fortunately or I would have felt really stupid)

However, if the money was an issue for me I WOULD drive the Buick (well maybe not a Buick but something like it) and find a way to be completely happy with it.

I think there are a whole hell of a lot of great cars out there that make a lot more fincncial sense than a Mercedes Benz but few that stroke the ego quite as well. OMIGAWD maybe I am egotistical? Do you think?!?

*laugh*

I, for one, would gladly take the money of anyone quite stupid enough to pay in advance for a vehicle.

If you did it for an S-class, I could probably withhold my snickering.

Interest income. Look into it.

Or, stop using up Mommy and Daddy's free AOL hours.

I have to apologize I did promise a while back (in this thread I think) not to rise to the bait of the trolls and baiters. I said I would just use the "ignore" option above.

I notice the EDJ also stepped out of bounds and responded (just a little). Somehow I just can't resist and let it go by when these morons come along. It gives me something to do :p

I will put this "gentleman" on ignore and just watch your responses and wonder what he may have posted

I do have a honest question for you wknoe. If you are being truthful, why on earth would you pay in advance for a car that is one year away?

Second, and this applies to anyone who knows; Isn't the S being redesigned for 2005? Wouldn't it make more sense to pay in advance for that? :p
