It's just too pedestrian; too current "Japanese" car style. They had an opportunity to be truly ground breaking but instead they played it safe.

Like they did with the W210. That car really changed the direction of class and design when released in 1996. They hit a homerun with it IMO.

I think the W212 is a huge improvement minus the back end. Not digging the tails...

Quote: Sure seems like people aren't "feeling" it with this one...

For some comparison...
The photos of the new car are deceptive. When you look at the test mule. It doesn't have those curves. The test mule looks more like a Honda Accord. That new Hyundai Genesis car looks better.

plain fugly
I don't know what to say but the lines don't flow at all... Seems like few manufactures mate with each other and create this product.

If the production for the rear is like this, we might as well just get this:

It does look a little weird in the pictures. Even if it does looks better in reality, my reaction was VERY different when the current E-Class model came out in '03 and I saw the first pictures of it: i LOVED it immediately...

Quote: A Lexus Hyundai Mutt with a weird sort of Maybach raised wheel well rear panel.

Complete and utter fail.

Makes me happy I got mine when I did.

+1

I'm REALLY trying to like this car and convince myself as to how it can look really good.

Just doesn't flow at all, the styling is too sharp and it looks almost cluttered from some angles, and plain/boring in others (rear).

The front looks okay albeit a bit busy and to sharp-edged for my tastes also too many lines everywhere? The rear is just plain awful, I can't believe it. I love the rear of the 211, understated, yet classy and *looks* like an M-B, this rear just doesn't scream Benz to me. Plus the wheel arches come out of nowhere, maybe with a strong Body kit it'll work. The grille looks interesting, yet a bit "toy-ish" if you know what I mean.

From the Pics it seems they're trying to hybrid the German look too much with the Japanese, but we'll see when they hit the the streets what the real verdict is.

The front = Thank you
The rear = Excuse me

& btw, the matter with the photos and shots, I think if they pick some photos in another location it will be better than this,,, really am dispointed the rear looks like 80th Toyota Crown..

People buy German cars and pay a premium for them because they do not want Japanese cars. I hope they do not go this direction.

Will only be able to decide for certain when the car is seen in person.

As soon as I saw it, it immediately reminded me of the Lexus GS series:

I like the front end, looks very classy. However, the rear end is just so plain and boring.

That rear wheel arch so looks like it belongs on an old 50's car with the half-covered wheel and white-walls, lol.

The headlights are identical to the Lexus.

I've said it before, and I keep thinking about it, it seems for the first time ever, it's M-B who is ripping off the styling and technological cues from other automakers, including some Japanese makers and BMW, rather than the opposite which has been the story in history thus far. I first started thinking that when I saw the new C-Class, but the new E goes even further IMO.

Hah. I say they just fill half that wheel well, at least it would look more complete IMO, right now it looks like it's missing something as it leads you on with the big 50's style bulge, but then leaves the whole rim to be shown....

man I love Benzes, but they are looking more and more like Japanese cars..... i mean i really want to reserve judgment till I see it in person... but damn thats ugly..... based on the pictures I am not all that impressed with the front by no means..... and the back...... well..... if you ever have to replace those rear taillights you'll be happy knowing that instead of buying them from Benz you could get them much cheaper from your local Honda dealer..... nuff said.

I want to see the cars in person. It seems I always change my mind after I see new cars for bit.

Are they really getting rid of the CLK?

Well, one from Sindelfingen would know a lot more than an average forum member here.

By the way, there is at least one on sale already if anyone wants to make an order:

Looks just like a BMW 335 coupe!

I'm not all that pleased with the design, but I'll wait to see it too. Sad, because if it was good like the C, I would have stayed in a Benz when my lease is up. Between the experiences I'm having now and the design direction, looks like I may be going back to Audi.
