New SDARS Receivers?

Anybody know if MBUSA will make available a revised SDARS receiver that will receive both Sirius & XM channels for when subscribers will be able to order channels ala carte (Instead of "Best of" packages)?

Some Satellite recievers out there are capable of this already. A user can determine if their radio is capable of this feat by calling Sirius & supplying them with the EID number of the radio. NO Mercedes units to my knowledge have been manufactured yet with this capability, but some aftermarket radios have this built into them already.

According to a dealer bulletin, the MY08 models have this capability already and only need a COMAND software update to enable it. I checked my friends MY08 and his ESN is 02xxxxxxxxxx where mine (which I ordered less than three months ago from the dealer and installed) is 01xxxxxxxxxx so I am not sure of that dictates anything or not. Also, the MFG date of my unit just purchased was 2006 so I would bet money it will NOT work with XM.

Knowing MB you will probably need to purchase a new SDARS receiver.

MY08 211 shows part # 1698270162 replaced by 2118703389, replaced by 2118706790 therefore I am assuming all there receivers can be updated per DTB S-B-82.60/640a NOV08.

1698270162, MB $925 list/740 net, parts.com 638.25
2118703389 & 2118706790, 800/640, 552

Everything else is the same, including the COMAND in the 2008 cars, so I think a new SDARS receiver would do it.
