How is it possible that my fan sounds like it is 200 degrees outside when I'm driving in 15 degree weather?

It almost sounds like the thing is overheating, but the engine temp is always right below 100..

I don't get it...any thoughts appreciated

right below 100 is pretty hot. My 220 runs between 80 and 90 from mid winter to mid summer, no exceptions. My 210 ran about the same, as do my fathers clk550 and sl55.

You may have some cooling issues.

On the W210 the fan clutch starts to lock up at ~95C; W211 is prob set up the same.

Additionally, on the W210 the dash idiot gage stops reporting accurate temp at +95C and holds that temp. Will suddenly leap forward when temp reaches 105-110C and then begin reporting accurately again so it may be running hotter than you think it is.

Might want to digitally monitor the temp while driving from the CCU (screen 7) for a while and see what is really going on.

damn it...i'm going to have to go to the dealer again - i dont mind because im in warranty but i hate the damn place, my car is always there for longer than is conceivably necessary.

I def dont want my transmission to go out on me so i think this needs to be addressed asap.

thanks for the input guys much appreciated.

Ya, I've heard that some cars the temp readout isn't accurate at all, I mean not even close.

It (on the W210 at least) is not an accuracy issue, rather the way the gage is designed to report.

Too many folks trained to take it to the shop immediately if the temp pushes 100C, which the car will do on a hot day with the AC on when exiting teh freeway and then entering stop and go city traffic.

MB's way to slow down those unnecessary visits supposedly.
