Thank goodness I didn't wait for the new design.

I really want to like it. I am trying to like it. But I don't. I have seen several pics now of the 2010 e-class....who picked these car colors to showcase the launch product? I don't think these color choices are helping.
It might look a lot nicer in person though. I hear the GLK looks better live.

The back looks like a Hyundai for sure! I see some BMW 5 series body lines from the side view. Is it me or does the new headlights reminds you of the Lexus GS? Overall, it's a good looking car, but I wouldn't buy it because of the Hyundai rear end.

I don't understand the horrendous Lexus/Hyundai/Honda plagiarized tail lamps. What's wrong with keeping the originality that MB has designing for decades? Sorry, I think they blew it with the basics: square front lamps and plain-looking tails make me want to cry. Back when I had a 97 Maxima (loved that car) and the 00 came out, I could not get past the sorry looking rear end, that was my last Maxima. I am sure many W211 owners will pass on the W212.

Looks like M-B is going to lose my business unless I'll be willing to pay for a new-ish S (which I'm not all toooo crazy about but like nonetheless compared to other new cars) or CL class in a couple of years, or unless the new CLS looks better than the current.
It just looks so boxy and non-flowing, really busy, I couldn't stand to look at it every day if I had one I'd think, it reminds me too much of the reasons I never liked the new 5-Series.
I really hope this new ruler-sharp fad of car designs takes a turn sooner than late, it's like the 80's square look. Than again I've never liked boxy cars, IMO they don't hold as timeless a look as smoother lined cars.

A lot of new w212 pics to get a better idea

Leave comments on what you think , and post your favorite pic, I think after looking at different colors from different views it's pretty nice , the back ofcourse is lacking a bit, and
the chrome line on the side all the way on the bottom is kind of out of place

Interior looks pretty good, I wouldn't say I like it better than the 211 (yet), but it loses some "Sport" and aerodynamic appeal for a more mature flavor.
What's with the rear-view mirrors? They look awful, how can they actually be so much worse and less attractive than either pre face-lift or face-lift W211? I don't know why they're not fully color coded, remind me of a Fords mirrors or something.
Also, the AMG Package wheels look horrible IMO, which sucks because AMG has always put nice 5-Star rims with their cars.
There are some angles that look pretty decent, but overall I just can't get myself to be anything but really let down by it so far.

Also, the specs sound good, the new-era of Pre-Safe features is cool, I REALLY like the 30% improved torsional rigidy (does that mean the actual frame/chassis is that much stronger?), and it's obviously gonna be even safer, I'm also surprised it's more Aerodynamic since its so much square-r.
I just reaaalllly wish I liked the looks.....

You're kind of right k a , I mean it looks not bad , but E class , they should've done something more incredible , It may look good just because of expensive looking materials in person , but if the design was something like the new S class and the new CL it would of been much nicer , i mean the front end looks VERY nice , and then the rest of the car is a mess , It's going to be here for another atleast 6 years , and you already want it to be gone next year , w211 was really good looking but maybe just like the w220 and w221 , w211 may look old next to w212 , I really hate that you have to get used to all these new mercedeses , and the most afraid I'm for is the SL

I've been so stoked I've finally been able to get a Benz this past year, and now they're making cars that I don't find as attractive as the last 8 or so years (the time when I was wishing to own one).

Yeah, I don't believe in the term "getting used to cars". I see them like when one looks at prospective men/woman interests, you don't "learn to live with them", IMO if it doesn't look good to me from the second I lay eyes on it, it'll never be an attractive car to me, even if my mind warms up to it because it has to. I want a car that I loved from the second I saw it.

The front end is very nice, like it a lot. I hate the back. Interior and side view are OK, but I tend to like more organic lines. Overall, I don't think I'll be shopping for one. My next car will probably be a CLS.
I wouldn't be surprised that in a year or two after launch MB does a minor facelift to redo the tailights. They just take so much away from the car.

Yeah, the front end looks classy, I just hate those headlights, too sharp edged, won't hold well looks-wise in time IMO. +1 on the organic lines, and the rear just really takes alot away from the car.
I'm staying optimistic toward the CLS too, I'm not crazy about this one, but I saw some spy shots of the next one and they look like the windows will be taller, which IMO will help it alot.

Funny how some of you guys says it looks like a Hyundai. Wondering if he did any freelancing work with MB for designing the w212 before officially starting his new position with them.
