CDI Oil Filter

Hello All... first thread here!

I just bought a 2006 E320 CDI and the service is way overdue. I just bought the Oil online, Mobil 0w-40 Euro specs.. 229.5. My question is on the oil filters, is paper fine (i.e. NAPA Golds etc..) or should I be using the fleece filters by MB. I have heard mixed statements on this. Your input?

I know most people don't work on these cars, but I'm a mechanic for a living on emergency vehicles... so while I'm used to the electrical nightmares, this is still a new demon for me to learn and I'm one to always ask the questions if not 100% sure.

Thanks in Advance!

I would get the MB spec filter the price isn't that high, and you're less likely to have a problem. BTW, Welcome, and you got a great car. We love the CDI/Bluetec's!

+1 - go by the MB dealer and purchase the correct MB filter. I don't think the CDI specific filter is fleece, but I would only install an MB filter in the car. You can get it from a number of online stores as well, but I would only recommend an MB and not a NAPA, etc.

Good job on getting the correct oil - very important. If you follow the MB change specs, the oil change interval is 13k, but that is of course if you use the correct oil and filter. The FSS system will tell you when to change your oil based on your driving habits, and there is a sticky post covering the FSS system, as well as some information in your manual.

Welcome to the forums. There are many CDI/Bluetec owners here and lots good of information.

Thanks, purchased the oil filter today while I was grabbing a set of brake pads. I was pretty surprised, the online store I was browsing through had the pads/sensors for 88 dollars plus shipping. And the stealership had them for 92.. plus tax. So as far as I'm concerned that isn't too bad!

And given the recent discovery of minor issues with the car I'll be picking peoples brains and hopefully as I learn a little more about this I can offer some assistance as well!

You might want to check out MercedesPartsSuperStore.com........I looked up your front brake pads and they're listed for $75.44. I plan to order replacement front brake calipers from there next time I need my pads replaced.........I plan to first paint them with black brake paint prior to installation since my existing ones are badly rusted.

To my knowledge, these are all MB parts........major discount over what my MB Dealer charges. You can check for a part on the MB online parts catalog and then go into this parts site to confirm it's the same part no. and then order them. Actually, someone on this forum had posted this site for discount MB parts.
