COMAND scrambled

Very frustrated with the electronics in my 05 e320. A few random times after washing the car, the system was scrambled. Blank screen, intermittant nav system not available, playing fm while in am, blank screens, cutting in/out, etc. While under warranty, dealer repaired twice. Now, at 58k miles and after washing the car, scrambled again. (One would think MB could figure out how to have reliable nav / radio, etc. by this time - been driving Benz since 1975 and they are getting worse. They are hurting our resale value.) OK - Does anyone have a clue if I can reset the computer without being ripped off by the dealer?

Could this be an audio gateway problem? That is where the tuner is located...

What did they document on your invoice(s) concerning repeat repairs? Oddly, a number of your malfunctions are resolved by updating the COMAND headunit software but this would have nothing to do with car washes. Your problem may be two fold, in need of a software upgrade and water is entering somewhere. Two common leaks are clogged drain valves causing interior leakage, and water leakage to the trunk.

Inspect the interior and trunk for water/corrosion. Service Campaign 2007010002 JAN07 covers the front water drains even if you are out of warranty if within 211.065 (e320) VIN range A014562 – A725376, X097857 – X1161213. In addition, for the trunk check this link: https://mbworld.org/forums/2459939-post9.html you may also want to clear the trunk lid drain located under the bottom lip.

COMAND update is simple DIY procedure if interested PM your email address and I will forward a copy of the DTB inclusive of service disc to purchase.

I was going to mention to check for water leaks into the AGW, but Konigstiger beat me to it. Check the link above for a full explanation, may be your problem.

I would try the COMAND update too. Takes no time at all. Cost about $12 follow the simple instructions on the disk jacket and see what happens. If I'm not mistaken even if the COMAND was the current update you can load it again. It is basically a computer and might need to be "reset". I did mine and it cured some issues but they were not as bad as yours. Water or dampness could also cause head aces too.
