Navigation System

Does anyone know if the Navigation System will be DVD based? I want to order the E500 but the current MB Nav Systems are not that great.

Thanks for any help.

From what I have read, the answer is yes

Supposedly the new version of the NAV system will be DVD based but again that is all speculation. So many rumors out there I dont know what to believe. I also hear it will have a CD player but who knows. Here is something that may help you.

No news of a DVD based system yet. I would think we would of heard by now hoever if a DVD system was to be standard in 2003. My guess is that we wont see DVD Nav systems until at least 2004.

Talking Yes the new nav system will be DVD

Having read the german price list, it clearly states that the new navigation system is in fact DVD, plus if you look at the pic of the new system you can see now that it has a video instead of tv button, this will be for watching dvd movies while the car is in park, much like the lexus system...finally...straight from the daimlerchyrsler website :

COMAND APS: The system integrates radio, DVD player, TV unit, navigation system and telephone operation.

The bad news is this system wont be availble until the fourth quarter of this year, october to be more exact, so if one wants comand with their new E or CLK they will have to wait for september/october builds, there will be no first on the block car July deliveries for those that want comand while the facelifted CL and S come out in october anyways, so it wont effect their intro

Talking few other things of note:

the cd changer is behind the audio system in the center console, you just feed the slot the 6 discs (could this possibly mean the end to dealer ripp of changers, lets hope so) the sytem is 390 euros in europe thats $345....

the DVD comand system is listed at 2500 euros thats $2,210

the optional sound system is noted as being harmon/kardon logic 7 with 12 speakers...I guess Bose has been shown the door on this one...the system costs 650 euros which is approx $575

Talking one more thing

LINGUATRONIC: The radio, CD player, telephone and now also the navigation system can be voice-controlled.

seems like the nav portion of comand will be voice controlled now as well as all the other features....finally looks like mercedes has got its act together to offer a complete package

The real question is what parts of this new system will make it to the United States and which part will stay in Europe. Only time will tell.

have they been previously using DVDin Europe

If so then there is a good case that this may not make it here. Im not aware of them being DVD based in Europe now though. I thought they were the same. That type of technology would be shared with all the markets unlike some of the other options we see only offered in Europe. Options like a manual on an S series sedan.

I just left a deposit at my local dealer for the 2003 E320. Now am concerned with the Navigation feature. Why would mercedes offer one system in July and then change it in October. All models from July forward should be DVD based. This is confusing and now am thinking if I should wait till OCT. The screen shown in the pictures look very small, not sure how it will work...Does anyone know much about the new system. Thanks!!
