Unhappy Keys

Hey everybody, I was just wondering how many keys you got with your vehicle. The dealer only gave me the two remote control units with the emergency steel key in it. There was no service key/flat key/valet key. He said Mercedes only gives out two keys now (???)

I was surprised, as my old S-Class came with 6 keys.....

I can't find anywhere in the owner's manual either, about how many keys the car is supposed to come with.

Thanks in advance.

I also got two keys - The key you give to the valet is the remote and you take the steel key after you lock the glovebox/trunk with it if you like. My 1993 E220 came with three keys back then. My dad's S class (w140) came with two remotes and one regular key.

ICY: The early 2001 models still had the flat (but thick) wallet smartkey, but MB discontinued them during the model year. I had an early '01 C with it, but they are no longer provided. I always thought the thickness made it less than viable as a "wallet key".

Same here when I took delivery of my C320. Also from what I recall during an E500 delivery at the dealership recently, customer was handed 2 remote control units with the emergency steel key in it.

I got two remotes........missed the wallet key because I always felt that if i lost my car keys whilst away from home then the chances of losing the wallet as well were slight, and that at least we would be able to get home.

What I do now is to take the emergency steel key out of the remote and keep this in my wallet; and then (and some may be appalled by this), I hide the remote in the car.

That way, if I lose my car keys, but have my wallet, I can get in the car, retrieve the remote, and start the car.

Just be creative where you hide the remote....!

I got 2 with my E500, with a max of 7 possible in the life of the smartkey onboard (if you lose 7 keys they need to replace the smartkey components *inside* the car)

I also only received two remote units with the valet key in each. I was told that these units cost $150 each to replace. Marc777, what you do with your keys is pretty brilliant, I think I might do the same.
