harmon kardon radio upgrade
could anyone tell me how i can tell if a 500E has the harmon/kardon radio upgrade. a friend of mine ordered it but the system looks and sounds like the standard one to me. even the dealer cannot seem to show him for sure what any visible difference would be. we want to be sure he got what he paid for. any help is appreciated.

it depends if he got the moonroof package, or if he got the system package itself, ask him if he got the E-2 package, if he did, then he got it

If you can set the Sound menu to Logic 7, then you have the HK system.
To access the Sound menu, push the Bass/Treble button (the button with two musical notes). On the lower left hand of the screen, press the soft key for "Options". The Sound menu will appear - one of the settings should be "Logic 7".

The HK Logic 7 system does have 12 speakers. My E320 is at the dealors for an upgrade to the "gateway" for that system. It seen that there is a service letter out about that. I have the letter and it states that they are having complaints of the system intermittantly powering down....no power to anything related to the stearo system. The letter says that it is an overheating problem. Also when in the Logic 7 mode (more about that later) it was noticed that there was a cutting in and out of the right rear speakers. That was heard in the FM mode as well as playing CD's. We don't know if this is related to the "gateway" or if it just a loose connection in one of the rear speakers. Dealer ordered new rear speakers that lay up near the rear window. 3 spekers come in one unit.
Regarding the Logic 7 (surround sound) system. The information sheet that the dealer has decribed the system as being able to take a 2 channel signal and converting it to sourrond (7:1).
The Logic 7 system CANNOT play any surround sound, either Dolby Digital or DTS, from CD's.....again only converts 2 channel into surround.
