Is there anything wrong with my Car
Hi, I am from Vancouver, Canada. I have a 2003 E320 Sedan.
"I feel" the car doesn't drive smooth. I mean nothing wrong with engine or suspension or the tires but i feel something is up with transmission.
The car kinda slows down a lot when i lift my foot off the gas in 1st and 2nd gear.
I want it to just keep moving without slowing down like this.
It feels like a manual car, when you lift your foot off the gas in low gears and the car slows down. Kinda like the engine brake thing.
Is that normal?
I asked mercedes rep and he told me its normal. I mean de didnt check it though.
Do you guys feel the samething, is it related to software or is it a hardware issue.
I know the best way is to take it to Mercedes, but my car is no longer under warrenty and they will charge like $100 just to take a look. So i want to get a little more information from you guys first.

My (2003 / E320) does that as well. It does not upshift while the car is decelerating in 1/2 gears. Most domestic cars will upshift when coasting down hills. M-B does not. I like it. It reduces breaking and unnecessary wear on the tranny. I don't think you have a malfunction.

I assume you recently got this car and its not an all of a sudden type of thing. When these cars are "cold" they hold gears longer before upshifting. Because it is a 7 speed (unless you are AWD) 1st gear is very low. Lifting my foot off my accelerator while in 1st slows the car down just like in a manual trans car... no coasting. So I assume its normal for your car too.

CH is correct however, if this is happening on level surface have the Engine Control Unit (ECU) software updated using latest flash disc per DTB P-B-07.00/28f FEB04 (only applicable to MY03 211) by dealer or independent.
What you may be experiencing is hesitation “as if” caused by two-footed driver (i.e.: driver depresses accelerator and brake pedal at the same time).

Thanks guys for telling me that. It took a lot of burden off my mind.
Also I feel similar deceleration when driving at higher speeds.
Although not nearly to the same extent but it surely doesn’t coast.
Do you guys experience that too?
