Buying Decision

I'm trying to decide between 07 E550 and 06 E55. They both have a lot of options, excellent condition, certified and low mileage 17k and 22k.
Sticker prices are $43k and $48k.

What would be good deal on these cars and any opinions appreciated.
I currently have 2000 GS400.

I did get to test drive E550, but not E55.
The chasis felt very strong compared to any other car I have drive, and the power was great. The only downside was the throtle and trasmission resonponse was somewhat slow.

Drive the E55 then decide as that will make a world of difference

IMO, the E550 would be more reliable since the 07+ have received much better ratings. But E55... that's just something else. Again, drive the 55 first before you decide.

Different animals competely. The E550 is powerful, but IMO if you can even get an E55 for even $5K more, don't care about gas mileage, and with equal miles and a CPO warranty, go with it and don't look back.

Thanks for the info. I was kind of concerned about the reliability with 2006 E55 having FI (supercharged) and being 2006.
I guess I need to test drive to see how much better it is.

Is it reasonable to negotiate the price about $7K off of the sticker for these cars? Or is that being unreasonable?

Based on my reading, I see mid $30k is a good deal for 07 E550.
I don't know much about MB and the its dealership, but why wouldn't they put prices a little more realistic?

About half of the times I buy a car (used or new), I always end up finding out that I could have done better. This time, I'd like to take a full advantage of the bad economy.

That is high for the '07 E550 even with low mileage you can get '08 for that price.

The formula I used when I bought mine is original MSRP with option plus destination divide by two plus/minus $1K for mileage. In my case the MSRP plus destination is $66055 and half is $33027 minus $1K due to higher (36k) than average mileage.
Keep in mine the E550 is in low demand due to gas price if you are not in hurry then wait a little bit, I bet you the car still there for a month or so.
Anyway this is what I got a week ago in NorCal: E550 CPO Bk/Bk with P2, Sport Package, Wood steering wheel and Panorama Roof for $32K plus Tax and Tag.

I'm planning to buy the car this weekend if everything checks out.
I need to inspect the car and review service history, etc.
The price you paid is off by $11K. I guess I'll target around $35k
BTW, the car I'm planning to buy has exactly same option as yours. The color is silver/ash.

I found a another car at a different dealer.
Black/black with 12k miles, non-CPO.
Car is like new. Dealer asking $39500, and 2k less than what is supposed to be for my trade in.

Is this a good deal?

BTW, I test drove 06 E55 AMG CPO, and that thing is out of this world.
Checked service history, and it looks like too many problems with the car.

The 550 will definitely be more reliable. MB ditched the kompressor systems as they were having a lot of problems. Unfortunitely, the new 63's can't compare to the 55's IMO, since I love torque. If it was up to me, I'd get a 550: newer body, newer technology, etc. Again, I'm a sleeper , that's why I love the 600's, people don't know what's under that hood. I was with my friend once and saw an SL600 and he said why would anyone buy a 600 instead of a 55 or 63, the 600 looks just like the 500 or 550? I said, cause there is nothing like 590 torque at 1,800 rpm!!! 1,800... my *******g car idols at 800 rpm. The two best MB engines out there IMO are the 550 and 600.
