Poor Nav Reception

My nav is forever getting lost. When driving in congested areas it doesn't pinpoint the street I'm on properly. My radio reception is also so-so.

PLEASE HELP!

In having recently installed your navigation processor and in light of poor radio reception first place to begin would be to revisit the GPS antenna fittings – navigation processor coupling, and antenna plug.

I only lose GPS reception if I am in downtown NYC. Never had a problem with the radio.

I had the dealer install the processor but I don't have the harness that holds the it in the trunk(it's just sitting on the floor). Could that be the cause of the poor reception.

Also I asked the dealer what the problem was and they said it could be caused by the fact that its a Euro comand using a US processor, does that sound right?

Having it resting on the floor is not the problem. I installed mine under the parcel shelf inside the trunk out of the way, the location does not matter.

You need to turn on the option on the Nav display to see how many satellites you are picking up, I have the same exact setup as you (Euro + nav) and no problems. You should be seeing at worst 5-6 satellites and at best 10-11. If you get a 0 or - then you have an antenna problem. Another hint of bad reception or antenna is if you do not get the altitude on the display (it will show -)

Well, this is getting more and more confusing.

The display shows aqnywhere between 6 and 10 while driving; usually 7-9. While showing a high number it will still get lost. I even tried using another antenna(one that came with the nav) reception is the same.
