Changing wheel and tire width question
Changing wheels and going from OEM 8.5 x 18 to AMG 8 x18 while maintaining the same tire size 245/40. Rears stay the same width but increasing tire from 265/35 to 275/35. Planning to run the same psi as before. What would be noticable effects; if any?
Thanx

with 1/2 inch less rim to support the tire you will have a very slight
more tire roll on teh sidewall, you would notice it unless doing 70 around a corner.. but 8.5 with a 245 is the perfect size.. still you are ok though...
275 is too big for a 9 inch rim, not recommended,
if you look at the AMG catalog or tire rack, both have 275 on a 9.5" rim
I have 275's on AMG 9.5 19" rims and luv them,

well the tirerack website is for 18" rims
the AMG is for 19" rims I was refering to..
you always drop 5% aspect ration when you go 1 inch bigger on the rims to avoid making the total wheel diameter than much larger otherwise it throws off the speedo and car computers..
AMG factory wheels for type 3 for 18" are 40/35
for 19" its 35/30..
look at AMG website, or any SL 55, SL 63, or CLS with those wheels on 19" AMG rims and you will see the smaller aspect for 19"
who would you believe TIRERACK, or AMG who makes the wheel.. lol

Please reread my first post. Its talking about 18, not 19. And no where is there a request for a +1, +2, etc explanation.
Now reread your first post.

Also you are muddying the waters with references to other models. You also don't seem to understand the reasoning behind AMGs decision on tire/wheel selection.
I ask a simple question about handling for my setup changes. I'm still looking for knowlegable responses.
