RPM at 80, 90 seems high for 05 E500

Took a long trip from Colorado Springs to Houston last week to attend a funeral.. During the extended highway driving, I got to noticeing my RPM at various high speeds... Seems to me my engine is running a little higher than I would expect for RPM... At 65, I'm about 2250 R's, 80, I'm seeing 2600 Rpm, at 90, 3100 Rpm... Max MPG was at about 75 MPH, or 23.3 MPG... Above that for speed/RPM and the MPG dropped to about 22.4 average for over 2000miles... Not exactly stellar... Can't help but think this car needs a better overdrive gear, another one above what it has stock or different axle gears...

Euro cars usually have shorter rear differential ratios, more adjusted to the autobahn speed (honestly more for economy).

Those RPM's are correct for the 4Matic's .. I long wondered the same and when I asked other members a couple months ago they reported the same RPM's ..

That's pretty correct since you have a 4matic and our 02 CL500 w/ 5 speed runs pretty close to that. Also, my 04 e320 w/ 5 speed runs at 3000 rpm at 80 mph. I love these MB engines and the torque these cars have, they're better than Audi and BMW IMO.
