1 piece vs. 2 piece wheel? 19"
What is the difference between 1pc. and 2pc. wheel, even the
3 piece construction. It seems like two piece wheels cost twice as
much.
Anyone?

W212 E350 AMG E63 Pack.
The 1 piece is the most common construction.
With the 2 piece the manufacturers has a broader range of construction and with the 3pc, they have all the tools available to make every single application needed. That's why when you see those lovely custom wheels in some cars the tend to be 3pc.

Most of the forged multi-piece wheels really only have forged centers. The rims are rolled and are not as strong as the centers.
Multi-piece wheels are more expensive because of labor, people have to assemble the parts. As was mentioned, the ability to vary the rim pieces allows the manufacter to use the same centers for nearly unlimited offsets.
One-piece forged wheels are generally lighter (and less damage prone, because the rim is forged too) than multi-piece forged center wheels. I know Renntech has a forged one-piece wheel that is very light for the few offered sizes.
(18" and 19" only) And as you can imagine, they are not particularly cheap.
Cast wheels probably do follow the cost 1 piece/cheapest>3-piece/most$$.
