I went to my dealership (I live in Jersey) and they did a super job. Cost me $850 (parts and labor) and insurance paid for the first $500.

I am planning to go with safelite glass company to get the glass repaired.
The glass has OEM specifications but does not have Mercedes stamp on it.

Does anyone have any reviews for safelite?

Thanks

How much damage needs to take place for insurance to cover a portion of the replacement?

Mine has a few deep roadchips and is in bad shape (sandblasting). Would like to replace, but not sure if its at the threshold of insurance.

There's always the good ol' golf club to the windshield trick

Safelite did not work for me. They did not have the replacement windshield ready at the time of my appointment. (Non OEM)

A mobile repair guy is coming to my place to replace windshield with OEM glass.
I'll post cost and reviews this evening.

For insurance claim - damage should be in driver's line of sight.

Attached the picture after the brick went into the windshield. Safety glass thanks, the brick didn't go through or my passenger would be hit straight into her face.

It was on the I-8 westbound coming down from Julian. It was between Molission Avenue and El Cajon Blvd. exit in El Cajon. CHP knew already that there is a group out there doing it and they were looking for them for weeks. It was a F-150 type truck driving right in front of us. After they threw the brick they went from the far left (fast lane) all the way over to the far right lane and left the freeway in a kamikaze move and almost crashed into another car in a different lane.

I went to the safelite website and they were quoting $550 inc. tax.

Any suggestions on how to get a lower price? Do they negotiate for non-insurance situations?

Damn! You and your passenger are so lucky that brick didn’t go through the windshield. Glad nobody was hurt!

I had 2 shattered windows replaced by Safelite on my 4Runner last month. They gave me a multiple window discount and a AAA membership discount.

I got my price for 425 first, then they forgot to show up twice and I told them if they don't want to lose me as a customer I'm not willing to pay more than 380 and gave myself a discount :-) They agreed.

I think Safelite is a franchise and they might make their own prices from shop to shop!

Thanks - checking with my insurance agent and will then call safelite. Will let you know what I find out.

If your deductible is too high you will pay the windshield out of your own pocket anyway! I checked with mine too back then.

My deductible is only $100. Working to find out:
1) criteria for replacement
2) impact on rates

One other question - what damage or noise could I expect from having the glass replaced?

I've read in places that the paintwork risks damage and that replacements often have leaking (wind and water) issues.

Windshield's will not raise your rates b/c that is not accident involved. 100 is cool for you so go for it. The replacement criteria is usually that if the crack is smaller than a Dollar Bill they can fix it without replacement, if it's bigger they will replace it on your behalf.

There is no damage. They will take the roof rails off and cut the sealing rubber off around the windshield. Then put new liquid black rubber/seal compound on and put the new windshield on. Put the two rails back in and clean the car a bit.

I have no water or wind coming in. With Safelite if it would happen, they come back and redo the entire work again to your satisfaction - FOR FREE!!! Life time warranty as well!!!
