Serviced at Dealer, Now Have Issues...

In Dec08 I bought a 2007 E-350 sport w/ 32,000 miles. It's in great condition, but since its new to me and still under warranty I thought I'd take it into the dealership for an oil change and new brake pads.

The dealer changed the oil ($120) and brakes ($600), but also did some free warranty work that included rear engine port gaskets (oil leak), replaced cylinder magnets (??), and a recall repair (not engine related).

several weeks after the repairs the following issues began:

1) When initiating braking (immediately after starting to depress brake pedal) the transmission up-shifts, causing the engine to lose compression and sending the car lurching forward (very dangerous at a time when the car needs to be stopping). After slowing down more the car begins the normal down-shift cycle required during braking. This creates very dangerous, jerky braking. I almost have to plan for the lurch forward in timing my braking. It appears to be an electronic/transmission issue, and I've thought about reseting my electronic shifting memory (i.e. turn steering wheel from side to side). Any ideas on what is causing this and how to fix.

2) My engine has started to have a ticking/chugging noise during idle. It reminds me of my Dad's old MB turbo-diesel. "tickachugga-tickachugga-tickachugga" . My old '96 C-280 started to have the same sound at around 115,000 miles, but my '07 E-350 only has 35,000 which in my mind should still be puring like a cat. Any ideas on cause and remedy?

Even though the car is still under warranty I'm dreading the idea of having to take it back to the dealer, since I have severe trust issues and the car always seems to come back from the dealer worse than it went in. Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks,

Two choices visit another dealer, or have the MBUSA rep (800-367-6372) meet you at the dealership you are dissatisfied with to discuss your concerns.

Where are you located? Maybe others can suggest a better dealership or SA.

Does turning the wheels lock to lock reset steering angle AND shift memory on a W211 or only the latter?

I had the ticking issue after changing the oil (myself) on my 07 E350. The sound was coming from the oil filter canister. I opened the canister up and reseated the filter. The sound went away.

I can't help you on the tranny issue.

Thanks for the advice, and I look forward to more.

My issue isn't with the specific MB Dealer (as the guys are actually pretty nice), but I just lament taking my car to dealers in general. If I can fix it myself I'd prefer to do so, and thanks to all your sage advice I just might be able to.

Thanks!
