Cars made in 1996 and after in the US had OBDII, prior to that it was OBD. Normally you can just buy an ELM327 bluetooth scanner, and pair to an app like Torque. Amazon sells a decent one for about $24, the BAFX model, quality varies with other models. It does a lot more than most dedicated handheld scanners for a lot less.

Hi Raymond, the car is European so it's not marketed in States. So any advice ?

Code Reader / Scanner for 2007 w211 E-350 4-Matic
I am looking for a cheap Code Reader / Scanner for 2007 w211 E-350 4-Matic such that I could myself read "Check Engine" light codes and reset if necessary.
Not looking anything fancy, but a reader which understands most of the first level codes of w211 2007 with 4-Matic Sports Package including engine, transmission, emissions, O2 sensors and Camshaft position sensors, etc. Which scanner / diagnostic tool to buy from Amazon or E-Bay, or if one is available cheap at an Auto Store. Will appreciate any feedback |
Something like this should work as long as they support can.
They also make Bluetooth and wifi models that connect to your phone which is convenient I have a Bluetooth one that I use when I don't feel like using Star or I am working on a non Mercedes. BTW if you ever need more though diagnostic/setting changes I am not that far away and star is much more thorough |
Code Reader / Scanner for 2007 w211 E-350 4-Matic

http://amzn.com/B005KOZ25Y Still trying to figure out which wiper blade I order from these two: http://amzn.com/B00FRHOO9O http://amzn.com/B005WTPDOM Any feedback on wipers |
I would not buy either I would buy this (BTW this is for the set so about the same price as the Valeo ones but don't have the stupid universal things on them)
Bosch and Valeo are what MB puts on the cars from the factory. |
On the wipers, I always used the ones from the dealer until about two years ago, when I had them changed at Pep Boys. The car was in there for an oil change, and I was tired that day so just said the heck with it let them do it. they put on the rain-x latitudes, and the difference was night and day. The Mercedes blades constantly made noise on the windshield, whereas the latitudes are quiet, and really keep the window clean. I generally tried to replace the blades every 6 months, because they needed it, and when I reordered them from Amazon after 6 months, I ended up not putting them on for more than a year, because, even with a rough winter that often left the windshield icy, the latitudes just kept soldiering on with no dead spots and streaking like the Mercedes were prone to do. I really like them, even if purists think that only the stuff authorized by Mercedes is the best. That's just not the case in this case. But, of course, as with all things involving a preference, your mileage may vary. But for the low price that Amazon charges, it's well worth trying them out. The Rain-X web site has good videos and instructions on installation of their universal mount. Also make note of what they call the hook design, which you will need to know when you change the mount for the universal latitude mount. Also, for what it's worth, if you buy them at Advance Auto Parts, they will put them on for free, which is a nice convenience.

Multiplexer to plug in under dash and to connect to computer: http://www.dhgate.com/product/2013-t...history-3-null Note that this link talks about software, which is a mistake made by people who don't speak English. From this link, all you get is the multiplexer plus the cables shown. For a more-modern Mercedes with an OBDII port (which the W211 has), the extra cables are surplusage, but I guess nice to have for your friends with older cars. All you need for the W211 is the multiplexer plus a OBDII cable plus a cable from the multiplexer to the computer, all of which are in the box they send. Computer comes with software installed and ready to roll, with developer mode already unlocked and working. Battery wasn't great, but I just use it plugged in with charger. Computer was in nice condition: although used and refurbished, you really can't tell that it isn't new. |

Torque and a bluetooth ELM327 adapter (cheap) will work on your car.

I have a wifi code reader obd2 dongle that I use dash command with for simple code scanning.
Is there a clone of the star diagnostic system available for the iPhone/iPad? I'd like to read as many codes as possible. ie: suspension, seat, SBC and other codes. Thanks Eric |

Agree and +1 this. I use torque and a bluetooth ELM327($6.99 and FREE shipping on AMAZON) module and it's fantastic for most things. The custom widgets are great and you can get a lot of information for troubleshooting this way. Otherwise, call around to your local indy shops and see if they can hook you up. Some are cooler than others. First, I ordered an ODB2 to Bluetooth adapter and hooked it up. Simply pair it to your Android device (apple is more complicated) like any other Bluetooth device. I did have to restart my phone before it'd pair but my tablet paired right away. This is the one I bought: http://www.uobd2.net/wholesale/mini-...h-scanner.html the interface is highly customizable and will show TONS of parameters with the ISF ECU. I have gauges showing 0-60, 1/4 mile, speed (from ECU or GPS), Engine speed, torque, horsepower, afm, voltages, etc. It'll also allow you to see and clear codes off the ECU. That alone was my excuse to buy it to the wife! There are different themes to the gauges, with infinite gauge layouts you can use. I'd highly recommend this to anyone with an extra $15 lying around. It's a great cheap monitoring tool that I'm looking forward to using in autocross videos. It'll do logging and everything that the more expensive tools will do for much less money. The options I mentioned are just a few of the monitor able parameters of the ECU. I'm in no way affiliated with this but I'm having a blast trying out this technology! So far the best I've run is a 5.0 0-60 (tire spin in the cold). |

As far as I know, with iOS you need a WiFi ELM. I have a Bluetooth ELM and it doesn't work with my iPad. |

Do you know what these mean and how to select the right one to choose? Thanks, Brian A. |

just be clear that for the device to be current on all modules on the vehicle,
you must subscribe to AE enhanced version. the basic version will do basic OBDII and possibly some code erasures. but to really be able to read the modules, you will need to pay a little extra, about $250 total. then, to read other MB models, staying current on the subscription is required. I bought MaxiEcu, what cost me $120, works with $30 laptop and works will all brands. It is European-oriented software, so not all US options are supported. So I bought 2014 E250 lately and MaxiEcu supports only up to 2013 models. I wrote them a week ago and the got email, that update for 2014 model is coming today. NO CHARGE |
