06 E350 Purshase Questions

New to the forum and looking to buy an E350 within the next two days. Have my eyes set on a a 06 E350 (sport package) w/35k miles for about 20 to 25k, here is my questions for the forum...
  1. What has been the overall sensus of maintenace/service records on an E350? What a are the major/minor service issues that have come across?
  2. How much emphasis should i place on the mb warranty? And what warranty package should i look for?
  3. What are the advantages/disadvantages for a stock to sport models?
Any feedback is welcome, thank you in advance for any all responces

Welcome! New member and 06 owner myself. Read thru the stickies and you'll get an idea of issues. The 06 and newer E series have been having fewer issues now that mb has apparently gotten serious about their reputation. Took mine in to the dealer this week for a complimentary 13-point inspection. Mentioned to the service advisor that the upshift from 1st to 2nd was kind of abrupt and ended up needing a valve body. Still has a slight bump but not as bad and it included new tranny oil and filter so that saved me $ since I had that service coming up. Good luck finding a car, let us know what you end up with. My feeling is you buy the seller as much as you buy the car so do your due diligence on the vehicle and make sure you feel comfortable with the seller.

The 07's > have been award winning bullet-proof. I have one, and previously had an '04 which was NOT. I would still only own one with a comprehensive extended warranty. Repairs & Parts prices are costly.

I just turned in my leased '06 E350 for an '09. I put 50,000 miles on the '06 without a single repair or complaint. I got the sport package on the '09 and like it much better than the non-sport version. Only downside with the sport package is that you will have a higher tire bill at replacement time - but that's the price you pay for improved handling.
