Question US Service 2

Why is my car telling me that next's service is a 2?

Background:
- I just bought my car used (2007 E350).
- It has ~13,000 miles on it.
- The MFD shows an upcoming C Service in ~10,000 miles.
- The Service menu contains a list of US Service items to be performed, one of them being US Service 2.
- The maintenance booklet says that US Service 2 Gasoline engines should be done at every 52,000 miles or 4 years (replace engine air-cleaner insert).

This is a little too soon, no?

The service interval for the car is every 12,000 miles or one year which ever comes first. I got my current car in the middle of June and I'm just about to reach the 10,000 mile mark on it and I've already had my Service A done on the car in April. I haven't reached the 12,000 mark yet but it has been more then one year since my car was "born". And air filter get changed every year with every service not every 4 years.

So then the Maintenance booklet is wrong when it says that US Service 2 Gasoline engines should be done at every 52,000 miles or 4 years (replace engine air-cleaner insert)?

I'm not sure if you are looking at the correct booklet. Usually the maintenance events are marked by letters as opposed to numbers. So the first service of the car should be Service A (which includes tire rotation, oil change, fluid replenishment and air filter change) at 12,000 miles or 1 year (whichever comes first). Service B is the second service of the car, happens 12,000 miles or 1 year after Service A (again, whichever comes first). This service includes everything that Service A includes including change of break pads.

Konigster was kind enough to post PDF files that list 2005-2008MY maintanence schedules. You can take a look at them here: https://mbworld.org/forums/3294991-post83.html

If you still have any questions I think the best bet would be to take the car to your nearest/favorite MB center and ask to talk to a service advisor. The consultation should be free and he should be able to advise you on what to do with the car next.

The OP is not talking about the service interval letters A through H, but the service ITEMS applicable to each "service letter". You have to go into the service menu to see the (numbered) service items.

I'm not 100% sure... but I think the FSS (ASSYST+ in Europe) lists certain service items, such as for example "US Service 2" no matter what. Then, depending on if the 4 year- or 52,000 miles interval specified in the service booklet has actually passed, and only then, you perform "US Service 2". You have to check the interval yourself. If the car is new, and the 52,000mile interval or the 4 years of time has not passed, you can simply skip the service item. In other words: You sometimes have to manually check if the service item listed applies in your situation.

Does anyone know for sure how this works?

The dealer will inspect it, may be that previous driving conditions require a change. If found to be fine they will leave as is and reset – here is the actual maintenance sheet for your vehicle listing requirements per elapsed time and mileage.

Mention DTB S-B-00.20/88 instances of erroneous and or differing maintenance items being displayed within the Instrument Cluster as compared to the approved Mercedes-Benz Maintenance System Service Sheet, disregard the information being calculated and displayed from the ASSYST system and follow the approved Service Sheet for proper maintenance intervals.
