Adding a 3rd row to a wagon? Anyone done it?

I was thinking about buying a used W211 wagon that didn't have the 3rd seat option already installed. Anyone ever done the installation? Estimate on cost?

Unless you luck out and find used parts that are exactly what you want, you can count on it being expensive. At least $2K and maybe twice that. You can subscribe for free to Mercedes parts system and look up the part numbers yourself and then plug them into an online dealer's site.

You are looking at least at the following parts:
1. Seat Back Assembly
2. Seat Assembly
3. 2 sets seat belts
4. 2 pcs rear headrest
5. 2 pcs seat belt keepers
6. 1 set spare tire holder
7. 1 pc foot well
8. 2 pcs seat assembly hinge

So I'm figuring about $2k unless you can find someone that has a third seat and want one without. There are a lot more wagons (maybe 9 of 10) that have the third seat. I have one that doesn't have one.

The flip side to not having the 3rd row is that you have some nice under-floor storage. With the 3rd row, the only place to store small items without having them roll around the cargo area is inside the temporary spare tire.

BTW, is this a 2004 wagon? From what I recall when the W211 wagons first came to the US, they were all supposed to have the 3rd row as standard, but they made a mistake on a batch or early builds, and a bunch of them came over with no third row, and a $750 "delete 3rd row credit."
