Programming the garage door opener

This must have been discussed here before but a search on "garage door opener" returns 990 posts.

I followed the instructions in the manual, both the "holding both buttons down until rapid blinking" method and the "training button" method. And, yes, I cleared everything by holding down buttons 1 and 3 for 20 seconds until rapid blinking before trying anything. Does anyone have any other tips on how to do this? The opener is a LiftMaster.

Do you have a learn button on your lift master?

I tried to program my home link on my 01 C320 the same way you did it, but it didn't work. So I pushed the learn botton on my chamberlin opener and followed the instructions in the manual again and was able to get the home link to work.

Make sure your car is in garage and away from the door closing on it.

Hope this helps

Yes. I pushed the learn button, lit the light on the LiftMaster then followed the instructions in the manual. No dice.

I just had a Liftmaster 3265 Opener installed & had to erase the old opener's code (from the HomeLink Mirror button) and learn the new one. You are Skipping something... I had to do it twice but the car learned the code & all works well.

I think I wasn't allowing sufficient time while pressing the buttons. Do it in the evening because the LEDs in the mirror will be much more visible. Its hard to see them blink otherwise. I did it in the day & had to tilt the mirror to see the blinking lights satisfactorilly. Be sure that the opener you are using to train the Homelink is in fact recognized by the garage door & will raise & lower the door on its own before you train the car..

Don't forget to perform the last step so that the rolling code feature is learned. Reread the instructions out loud in the car... they are a little confusing.

What year is your 211?

Wow, that was hard! I tried it eight times and failed but on the ninth try, it worked. After performing the programming step, I only had to push the programmed button once (after pushing the learning button on the LiftMaster head unit) and I heard a distinctive sound from the LiftMaster. Another push closed my garage door. Several more tests confirmed that, indeed, it works. So nice not to have to use the openers remote!

Thanks for your words of encouragement. They convinced me to try it again (and again) until I got it working.

Andy

Sorry to ignore your question in my reply. It was not intentional. My W211 is one of the first ones built, early Jan 2003. It's an E320.

Hey, I went from a problem to a full solution in about 1 1/2 hours. I'm starting to see the benefit of this forum. Again, thanks for the help.

Love my 08 E550, but the garage door opener is very poorly implemented even for a techie geek like myself. It took a full hour and a lot of experimenting with different combination's to get it to work. PITA.

Its really NOT a Mercedes Product. Its called HomeLink by Johnson Controls. From Johnson's website: http://www.homelink.com/programming/programming.taf

Choose your vehicle, then choose your opener for exact instructions on their video.

Any idea with the gate doors from apartment complexes? It looks like that they have rolling codes and even with the additional steps from the MB manual it is not being programmed.

I never tried to figure it out. I just use the regular one since I can take it out of the car when I give it to service. I take everything out, I guess I'm a little paranoid.

My new opener is a Liftmaster and DOES have rolling codes. It works. The last step teaches the Opener to accept a signal from the Cars transmitter. But if you can't program it, then the loose remote with a clip is good too.

You need to know the brand/model of the gate opener & see if it is compatible. Most openers since 2000 use rolling codes. Most new openers remotes do not have those 10 little dip switches inside them to make them unique. They are all electronic.

IT WORKED... Wow after 1.5 years of having the car, I can finally use the button under the mirror. The manual from the HomeLink website is much clearer than the one from the MB manual.

Every single car we've had with Homelink I've been able to program successfully on the first try. NEVER have I ever had to do it more than once to get it right.
