struts problem or not

I'd like hear from you about problem: I was driving 5 km/h (just started engine and put in drive) when suddenly heard load explosion on passenger side. First, I thought it was tire but tire was OK. I see that my passenger side is lower and I think it is strut(s).
In my warranty book, I see that it is covered until 120,000 km (2005 E320 CDI) and I have ~ 6,000 km left.

What do you think it could be problem and what it could be dealer price for fixing (part + labour) ?

Should I replace both in same time or just problematic one ..?

Thanks.

Alex

ps. I am going tomorrow in dealership and I am wondering if somebody could give me some information before they start with some tragic story

I don't know your warranty rules but MB has given instructions for dealers not to change struts in pairs. In their service document they first recommend changing struts in pairs to get a balanced behaviour but for warranty replacements insist that only the broken strut should be replaced.

However there is a high mileage threshold, if the car has been driven "at least 80 000 km", both struts could or should be replaced. I'd refer to this advice and ask them to replace both (if they do it under warranty).

What do you think ..? Is it struts or some other part could cause load 'explosion' How much was just part (strut).

In my service book, I see that a lot of things are covered but for sure they are going find something what it is not covered.

I should have mentioned that I assumed you have the Airmatic suspension option in your car, I cannot see you mentioning that. If it is Airmatic, the whole front strut (includes the shocks) is the spare part that needs to be replaced.

If the car has steel springs, I cannot figure out what the explosion could have been, it does not sound like a broken steel spring.

The problem was related to steel spring (it was just explosion but I cannot explain it). The problem occurred on my last day of warranty MB replaced both springs and I think it should be OK ...for now.

The replacement cost was ~ 700 CND but I paid 0.00 due to warranty.

Thanks once again ...
