.... nothing to brag about, it is a previous model....
"after market" ........ chrome trunk lid.

Please don't flame me just yet.

I don't mod my car, I have everything stock.
But it is just ONE thing caught my eyes about new face-lifed W211's chrome trunk lid. (not the tail light, headlight, nor wheel ) It kind of remind me the W126 in the 80s.

I know there is $2xx OEM part that I can buy from MB, but since W211 is phrasing out, I am just too cheap to spend more than $100 on it.

My question is... has anyone in this forum bought the "w211 chrome trunk lid" off fleabay? If so, how does it look in real life?

Putting any eBay W211 chrome will most probably get you banned from this forum, BUT posting a link to it would be more helpful.

oops... I didn't put any link because I don't want to advertise for anyone though.

hmm.. maybe I should change to "after market w211 chrome trunk lid".

thanks for the head up, I definitely don't want to be banned from this forum.

Don't do it, do a proper install. It looks really cheap and tacky, like you could just pull it off, which someone might do.

^^ Wow some of you guys are jumping the gun. There is nothing wrong with the chrome trunk lid trim off of ebay. It's made of the SAME cheap material as the OEM trim peice. I KNOW, I purchased both of them. The only difference is one "clips" on to the trunk lid while another sticks on. If anything I would recommend you get the newer trunk lid before getting trim piece.

Also the picture you are showing is of a European model I believe. Look at the width of the license plate "pocket", it's much wider then the states version. I think if you put that long chrome piece on the smaller states version it will not even look right. Too much chrome on either side of the "pocket". In fact look at tashakes sig that's the 2002-2006 pre-facelift version.

thanks for the advice guys..
The "longer" chrome trim give the car wider, more luxurious looks and less w203-ish.

I do understand the pro and con, just wondering if anyone actually has one installed and can tell me the fit and finished. ( I know some aftermarket chrome does looks cheap, but if the actual product after installed looks like the picture they provided. I think I might try it. - I am not too concern about falling off, most of spoiler are "tape" on )

BTW, erifly, your conversion looks absolutley beautiful. ( do you need to change your brake light swithc? check the sticky post )

I was thinking about getting this to see if I like it, but ruled it out.

I actually like the look of the pre F.L trunk finisher with tinted tails as it gives it a much cleaner, concise, and sportier look than the long chrome strip, but I like the chrome strip as well.

Yeah, I don't think it looks right with our "Americanized" smaller plate area, as opposed to a wide one with the long strip, just more properly proportioned. Also, just pasting (instead of properly installing) any chrome piece to a quality car like an E-Class just seems too ghetto-fab IMO. I doubt it'll look as proper up close too. Not to mention, you better get the measurements PERFECT when sticking it on or it'll be out of alignment, also hope that it's built to a perfect proportion and measurement itself.

If you get it post your thoughts and Pics though, I'd like to see how it looks on more applications with the smaller plate area.

Thanks, brake light switch? nope, why you say that.

And I had both, the ebay stick-on version and the OEM MB version, but did not install either since I'm in process of getting new vehicle. Reiterating what I said earlier, they were both identical in shape and material. The only difference was the "clip" versus "stickon". And I have used chrome stick-ons for my headlights and they have been through hell with the weather conditions out here where I live and haven't moved a mm. Like others, I recommend you get the face lifted trunk lid(wider license plate) before getting the chrome trim piece because it fits better.

LOL, I had my brake switch replaced recently that's why I thought if it is similar issue, it will be simple $15 job.

Tks about the info on the chrome strip. I guess I will drop the idea of getting one.

no this was for the entire trunk finisher. the whole panel already painted with my car color. i think i got a good deal. i was willing to pay around 150.
you cannot just put the chrome finish on your older one because the new panel is made to fit that chrome in there with the mound in it. the older one does not have a mould for it so if you put on a custom chrome thing it will be sticking out and it looks BAD and Fake.
