New Chrome key programming?
I just picked up one of those fantastic looking chrome smart keys, as a replacement for my everyday, battered and cracked horrible black key. I do have a brand, spanking new, never used horrible black one in spare but the chrome one is fab!
How would I programme it to work with the car? I am too nervous to bung it in the ignition, get inundated with error codes and pay stealer loads afterward.
So can this be done via the "leave it in the ignition overnight...turn it many times this way and that.." or does it NEED to go to stealer?
Thanks all

Ha ha ha, just from the picture alone, it isn't worth it! I never knew having the "chrome" smart key was so desirable! Trust me guys, having that key isn't anything special. I rather have some of your cars than a fancy key.

It is very nice to look at, but it is just twice if not more heavier than the black one.
Plus, I don't take out my key and put it on dinning table at the restaurant, nor clip it on my belt like many youngsters. So...after 2 days, I have my chrome key sitting in my drawer as a spare key.
LOL....
To but it less bluntly, no you cannot. As stated above, you must purchase the key from the dealer. Just no way around it. Why don't you just call the dealer, if you need further affirmation?
Whenever I have a newer Benz to drive with the newer key, the chrome is all scuffed up and looks kinda cheap, it's bigger and heavier, and it doesn't have as nice and slender a shape as the black one. Plus the Star symbol is always getting copper-y (i.e cheap material), which I haven't seen an old one do.
Also, I like the fact that the buttons aren't jumbling up the view of the Star, as they're separated on each side.

I guess they're both okay to me, each have their perks. Size and weight are important to me though, and I like how the old key makes use of each side and leaves the Star isolated, plus the buttons are a bit softer and easier to press. Fact is, I probably wouldn't complain if I had either, nor would I pay to buy the other one unless mine was damaged.... Or if the chrome started turning copper.

I agree with all of what you said... but IMO the newer chrome one LOOKS better (more sleek/stylish/refined). But as far as durability and functionality is concerned, the black one wins (even though it LOOKS "cheaper").
