BRAKE PROBLEM-HELP
after reading several threads about changing pads, rotors on my 2004 e500 I tried to do it. Some people said to disconnect sbc some said you didn''t have to. after starting up car-got 2 error messages regarding braking-I used a wood clamp to push pads into caliper without disconnecting sbc-did I screw something up? Also-what is correct procedure for bleeding brakes? Do I need some special tool or equipment? Thanks

you didn't screw up by not disconnecting the SBC unit. oOu can get a OBDII scanner to reset the brake lights. As for the bleeding the brakes, either you need another person to help you, or get a power bleeder like this one. I bought it and it's very easy to change the brake fluid.

thanks
Thanks-I feel a little better now-after reading a post by indyjoe regarding his sbc problem and having to spend $2500-I thought I had just had the second most expensive brake job in existance. I don't know if this makes a difference, but I did remove outer caliper cover by mistake-checked seals and reinstalled. I then completed brake job-I'm assuming this is when air got into system. The power bleeder is a good idea-I know car brakes are activated when door is open-what is correct procedure for bleeding-when car is off, door opne or closed, car on, ??? I'm really confused because of the this electronic brake by wire system.

You probably had let the air into the system. Don't know which seal or screw you've loosen. If the brake padel is soft, it's got air. It's very easy to bleed the brake fluid. Instruction comes w/ the power bleeder. Don't run the car while bleeding. Car open or not, does not matter.

if you're buying the power bleeder, you may want to buy the catch bottle as well to catch the old fluid.

Thanks for all your help-as soon as I get the parts I'll bleed the brakes. Questions-can an autoparts store such as Autozone or similiar reset the OBD II? We have had them in past download codes for other cars. Thanks again.
