Has anyone upgraded their iPOD cable so it will charge new iPODs?

My dealer tells me there is an updated "cable" for $185 that will charge the new iPODs and iPhones. Has anyone had to do this? My car is a 2007 and the kit was installed when the car was new. It charges my old iPOD which just quit working, but not my new 5G Nano.

Can i get this cheaper? Is it an easy install? Would rather not spend $200 to do this. I searched the archives but couldnt find anything.

Thanks!

Cool, thanks man. How hard is it to put in, they want 1 hour of labor! Any links to install procedure?

hey, sorry to bump this old thread, but did any of you ever put in that cable 67824531? I went with a different cable, A 210 440 50 05, but I'm curious about the true iPod one: what it looks like, where it attaches, etc......

I just purchased the SCOSHE from an Apple store (yes they had it in stock) so saved on shipping. Works awesome.

I wonder why the ipod Kit doesnt charge iphones in the first place? Is the SCOSHE adapter jumping leads to correct this?

BTW it charges the Iphone 4 also even though it says it wont.

how does the Scoshe connect? 30 pin to USB? Can't tell on the Apple site.

It looks like the adapter just connect on to the wired that is already in the car. The scoches adapter is an addition, acts somewhat like a regulator or ac power supply to charge the phone

The older iPod cable charges Gen1 and Gen2 units at 12V, so when you plug it into a 3rd or 4th generation iPod which is designed for 5V charging, you get the message that says "charging not supported". A $25 in-line adapter solves the problem. Mine is an iSimple and works perfect. Others work too. Good luck.

Smile iPod / iPhone Adapter - 3G, 3GS, 4

Have a 2009 C300 (W204) with iPod Integration Kit. Could not charge newer iPod's or iPhones since Apple changed from 12v Firewire to 5v USB charging.

Read many posts on forums that a new iPod / iPhone cable from MB was needed at a price of $75-$120 at the dealer. However found a more reasonable solution as others have suggested -- an aftermarket adapter module that attachs between the cable and the device.

This is from MB and is called an iPod Adapter - MB part number B6782 4582. I paid $57.50 plus tax and it works perfectly with the existing iPod cable. My iPhone 3G and 4 now charge while plugged into the cable.

It's MB branded but I'm sure a third-party was contracted to produce it.

Contact me if you want more details.

K-

Is this a replacement cable for the cable that connects the ipod/iphone with the actual black box that is behind the glove compartment?

I'm asking b/c I have seen little black adapters that go between the ipod/iphone and the cable that usually connects directly with the ipod/iphone.

Thank you!

Ok - here is an update.

This is for 2009 E350.

I purchased this from ebay and it came in today and works like a charm. Finally I can charge my iphone4 in my E350 using the standard cable that the car came with. No installation needed.

Also purchased the Scosche passPORT, but that didn't work. Am in the process of returning it now.

I'm bringing up this old thread to save 09 owners the trouble of buying the Scosche passPORT.

I tried the same since the Amazon price was $17 delivered. However, it didn't work so I also have to return.

I was at the dealer and tried the MB branded version. Works great on 09 E550 and iPhone 4S. Cost was $50 but I'm considering returning it and buying the MB replacement cable and going the DIY route. MB has the cable priced at $50. dave

FYI (Consumer Alert) for those that have tried the Scosche and it did not work. It has come to our attention that there are SEVERAL Amazon and eBay sellers claiming to sell the Scosche, but actually selling a cheap knockoff, some even in Scosche look alike packaging. The real deal costs over $28 (assuming the seller wants to make at least $1). However, you can't always tell by the price. We bought from several sellers in both market places back when we were trying to find some for a dealer, and almost none of them worked. We shipped them all the Scosche and were informed they were all counterfeit. Scosche then shipped us (we had to buy them again), and they all worked perfect!
We have no association with Scosche, but just wanted to let people know what we found. eBay and Amazon are full of scammers, we filed complaints with both places, but nothing was done about it....

Sorry to hear that! I'm sure mine is a total no name brand and it works like a charm! As a matter of fact my iPhone 4 charges faster in my car than connected to a computer via USB cable!

Can't complaint at all!

Thanks for the info. I bought direct form Amazon, ie, not a third party. $15.42 delivered via Prime. See http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...00_i00_details. I guess I should alert them the product is fraudulent? dave

Not necessarily.... if it works then it probably is not. Some places have them on clearance from time to time as they are very slow movers. I just wanted to alert those that it does not work for, then it is a counterfeit. It will work every time if it is the real deal.

But mine purchased from Amazon does not work with iPhone 4 while the $50 MB branded version does work. This rules out a faulty cable or system and suggests that I have a bad or fraudulent copy.

Also, my new 6th gen Nano iPod works. This was a surprise since I expected it to have the same wiring as my iPhone 4. dave

I just spoke to Scosche and they said that it will not work on my 09 E class. Case closed. dave
