Let's compare features and prices!

OK. Let's compare prices.

In Canada, the E320 is just under C$ 70,000 plus tax. That is US$45,800, which includes the considerable list below (MB Canada added a lot of standard options).

What does the same E320 with this list of featiures cost in your country, expressed in US$ (you may be able to go to your MB local web site to calcultate this)?

STANDARD EX FACTORY
adaptive drive dynamics
sensotronic braking
213 parameter steering
219 side window air bags
345 rain sensors
400 rear center armrest
423 auto transmission
430 rear head restraints
431 center rear belt
441 elect adj steering column
501 elect adj mirrors
570 front armrest w/storage
584 el. windows - 4 express up and down
593 tinted glass
611 entrance lamps
670 engine heat rest usage
875 heated windshield washers
876 interior lighting
877 rear reading lamps
886 remote trunk release
910 alternator w/higher capacity
915 80 litre fuel tank

STANDARD ADDED BY MB CANADA
83X leather
U36 COMAND pre-wiring
232 garage door opener
242 el.adj. pass seat w/memory
249 automatic day/night mirror dimming
275 el.adj. driver seat w/memory
280 leather covered steering wheel and shift knob
293 side air bags - rear doors
309 cup holders, front
384 TeleAid
414 elect. sliding glass roof
460 metric instrumentation
494 federal stamndard equipment
521 radio am/fm with cassette and single CD
524 paint preservation
543 multi-function sun visor
551 anti-theft alarm system
573 ISOFIX child seat
581 automatic 4-zone climate control w/active charcoal filter
634 first aid kit
636 collective code (delete euro warning triangle)
668 sea packing
673 battery - large capacity
690 mini spare wheel *ACTUALLY NOT TRUE, IT IS FULLSIZE
803 model year 2003 designation
873 heated front seats
919 cooling amplifier
955 elegance package (1)
986 vin nr on vehicle
989 vin nr on windshield

(1) 955 includes nameplate deletion, 16" 5-double spoke light allow heels 672, and burl walnut wood trim.

Quite a list I think: hence you need few if any options. (I did get the xenon lights).

Anyway, let's compare!

Michael: I see a base $US MSRP of $47670 including shippng on the MBUSA site. Heated seats here are $650, 4zone is $550, sunroof $1500, leather is $1440 = $51810. (If metallic paint is included in Canada, that's another $655 here.)

Jim, thanks. Yes, metallic is also included. So $52500. Wow, that explains why we here in Canada have to sign a legal form promising we will not under any circumstances export our car.

Oh and by the way, no discount

And by the way, I actually paid list price. But in any case we should compare list prices, as otherwise the perceived value of the trade-in distorts the picture.

Here in Canada, we have to pay Provincial Sales Tax (PST) + Goods and Services Tax (GST) which equates to a total of 17.5% for us living in British Columbia!

Fortunately, Canadian dealers are allowed only to sell brand news cars at MSRP; none of the "additional dealer mark-up" nonsense that you sometimes see down in the States.

Tax

Hi

Yes, I left the tax out, in keeping with local practice here. In Ontario PST is 8% (and GST is 7%).

It is still a mystery why shops in North America can put a price tag of "$ x" on something when in fact they mean "1.15*x"! Anyway, many US states have sales tax, I assume on cars too, and most Europeans have VAT (equivalent to GST) of, typically, 15-20% as well, although it is usually included in the price.

So, any other pricing for this package anyone? I am curious to know how much others pay for the same car.

Man, I miss living in Toronto. I still remember all my American friends complaining about the fact that things were so expensive there. It really is a matter of perception.

No wonder they don't let anyone export their fine vehicles down south.

Yes, they're quite cheap here. Not sure the export restriction would hold legally (if I were to move, no law would stop me!) but yes, you can sympathise.

Any more?

So now we know what a new with the same options E320 costs in Canada and the USA - can anyone else add a calculation in their country? I am really quite curious.
